Green painted door Every now and then we wait with bated breath to see a project finished and this was one of them. We knew the colour was striking and couldn't wait to see what our client had in store. He didn’t disappoint! Our stand-out green "Porto" front door sits beautifully in a hardwood glazed wall and lush, tropical planting makes you wonder if it’s on an island somewhere in the Pacific. This is a great example of how coloured doors can work well with timber cladding and why it’s not necessary to match the windows. The mixture of materials works to give the house a striking entrance. A Victorian semi-detached house in Wimbledon has been remodelled and transformed into a modern family home, including extensive underpinning and extensions at lower ground floor level in order to form a large open-plan space. Photographer: Nick Smith

A simple lean-to glazed frontage transforms the back of this house dramatically. By creating a open plan kitchen dining room with utility area off to the side and extending out just a small way, we bring the light into the now larger room, achieving a WOW factor to the back of this 1970's house. A very specific brief was given with the space to be a very contemporary entertainment area that both complemented the existing garden and house.

The front entrance of Making Place House features slim aluminium windows integrated into the contemporary architectural design. These carefully detailed openings allow natural light into the home while maintaining a clean, modern appearance that complements the rural West Yorkshire setting.
