Positioning the home as a conduit for family and togetherness, Gathering House is expanded to facilitate an open and engaging residential experience, melding both old and new within the one generous site. Taking references from the existing formal silhouette and materiality already in place, the focus became on extruding the original form while imbedding new principles of increased scale and openness throughout. Binding the interior to the larger landscape was also key, driving clear visual connections between inside and out and allowing the functions of the home to spill out into dedicated outdoor entertaining areas. The home celebrates coming together, dotted with moments of compression and release to align with varying levels of passive or active animation, retaining the familiar intimacy of home.

This laundry is a space savers dream! Machines stacked nicely with enough room to store whatever you need above (like that washing basket that just doesn't really GO anywhere). Fitted neatly is the laundry trough with a simple tap. The black tiles really do make the space it's own. Who said laundries had to be boring?

A Caple modern sit-on Belfast sink is set into a 30mm HS Carrara quartz worktop, paired with a Perrin & Rowe deck-mounted Ionian tap with lever handles and rinse in aged brass. Shaker cabinetry in Stone IV offers generous closed storage, complemented by oak shelving above in Rubio Monocoat White Oak. Wall-mounted arm lights add task lighting, while Corston Kilburn Antique Brass handles and knobs are used consistently across doors and drawers.

Our clients found a lovely villa right in the heart of Grey Lynn. While it kept a lot of its original charm, the layout didn’t really flow, and it needed more living space. Macfie Architecture took on the challenge to completely renovate and reconfigure the interiors of this 1911 home. In the front, we transformed the master bedroom by adding a walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite. We also created two spacious children's bedrooms and a formal lounge, plus a brand-new master bathroom. At the back of the villa, we built a new kitchen, dining room, and living room, with custom steel doors that smoothly separate the areas. We added a covered outdoor dining space and a sleek outdoor fireplace that connects to the new concrete pool and landscaped garden. We even created separate laundry room and bathroom that links to the pool area in the lower level. The finished renovation provides a clear view from the front door straight through to the new entertainment wing, the pool, and the gorgeous Grey Lynn skyline. This beautiful Shaker utility room, painted in Little Greene's Ambleside, has a timeless charm to it. The cabinetry is fitted with Armac Martin handles, thoughtfully repurposed by the client from her previous kitchen, adding a touch of nostalgia to the space. A standout feature is the Villeroy & Boch Belfast sink, perfectly complemented by the Perrin & Rowe Ionian 4193 Deck Mounted Tap in aged brass. Above, a Sheila Maid drying rack adds a practical touch, and the exposed wooden beam is a striking feature from which pendant lights hang, casting a warm and inviting glow over the room.

Elevating the heart of the home with a functional utility hidden behind the cabinets of the kitchen! It provides our client with a space to keep laundry out of view and an area designated for the laundry. Designed in our Mapesbury just like the kitchen, the cabinets have been hand-painted in Slate 1 to give a fresh and appealing look. At The Handmade Kitchen Company, we believe every corner in your home deserves the touch of exquisite craftsmanship and that’s why we design utility rooms that beautifully coexist with the kitchen! Adding to further functions of the room are Fisher and Paykel appliances, solid oak pull-out drying racks, a Shaws of Darwin Butler sink, a pull-out spray tap and durable worktops with a beautiful splashback in Honed marble. When designing and planning the utility, Charlotte knew it had to be a practical space for laundry, cleaning products and for the fur baby, Ralph. A larger Shaws butler sink was chosen to wash the boy’s football boots, soak pans and bathe Ralph. The statement gold tap not only looks amazing but is so handy, as it gives the rinse hose option which is ideal for rinsing things off in the sink. The idea of the pull-out shelf under the appliances, makes chores an easy task, a more organised space and no more bending as everything is at eye level. Look closely underneath the cabinets and there’s a space just for Ralph! This incorporated dog bed allows Ralph to take a nap in a quiet surrounding or somewhere to go after a lovely country walk. In Charlotte’s own words, “The utility room has become one of the most used rooms in the house and if anyone is designing or planning their utility room really think about how you would like to use the space and what layouts work for you and your everyday life.”
