Murdoch Villa, Macfie Architecture took on the challenge to completely renovate and reconfigure the interiors of this 1911 home. In the front, we transformed the master bedroom by adding a walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite. We also created two spacious children's bedrooms and a formal lounge, plus a brand-new master bathroom. At the back of the villa, we built a new kitchen, dining room, and living room, with custom steel doors that smoothly separate the areas. We added a covered outdoor dining space and a sleek outdoor fireplace that connects to the new concrete pool and landscaped garden. We even created separate laundry room and bathroom that links to the pool area in the lower level. The finished renovation provides a clear view from the front door straight through to the new entertainment wing, the pool, and the gorgeous Grey Lynn skyline. Murdoch Villa perfectly blends heritage charm with modern living and an inner-city style. A huge congratulations to our amazing clients for selling Murdoch Villa within just 24 hours of listing it!

The entry to the home captures the initial theme of water and reflection. A water garden is created with a chill out zone. The elevated water garden mimicks the elevated swimming pool offering seamless intergation with the Pacific ocean. The pool is finished off with blue stone tiles to create a dark reflection pool.

We worked alongside our clients and their contractors to re-design the existing outdoor space. We incorporated the existing swimming pool and some established planting in our scheme but reconfigured the space to provide both intimate and larger entertaining spaces. The design work included a bespoke water feature to add an air of tranquility to the garden and custom furniture. We developed a comprehensive lighting plan to create atmosphere and drama during the evening as well as an electrical plan, including a versatile outdoor sound system. Material cues in the garden were taken from the interior design of the main house including bronze, stone and the pink and purple hues in the planting.

In this Hamptons styled landscape we used herringbone tiling to connect and draw people to the supersized alfresco space. The interwoven cooking, dining, lounge & occasional spaces are linked by three overflowing urn water features. The space features an off form polished BBQ bench with sink. The bench is faced with white cladding. Batten screens provide privacy whilst also framing views. The same battens in the pergola to provide a linear shadow feature. The greenwall to the kitchen splashback window was created by planting of Lady palm begins an interplay of linear and layered planting of green featuring Buxus, Viburnum, Ornamental Pears, Lily Pily, Magnolias, Murrayas and Helichrysum.
