DreamMaker Bath & KitchenOnce an unused butler's pantry, this Ann Arbor kitchen remodel now offers added storage for important appliances and large items infrequently used. This hard working set of cabinetry does the work of a pantry without the doors, narrow storage and poor lighting of a traditional pantry. Complete with floor to ceiling natural cherry cabinets in the craftsman style, these cabinets add interest and function with stair-step depths and height. The Medallion cabinets are a natural cherry wood with a Sonoma door style, finished in a pecan burnished glaze. Sanctuary cabinet hardware from Top Knobs comes in a Tuscan Bronze finish. Bamboo floors compliment the warm cabinetry and will deepen to a honey blond over time. The living room, dining room and kitchen were redone.
The direction was to obtain a contemporary look but to preserve the warmth of a ranch home.
The perfect combination of modern colors such as grays and whites blend and work perfectly together with the abundant amount of wood tones in this design.
The open kitchen is separated from the dining area with a large 10' peninsula with a waterfall finish detail.
Notice the 3 different cabinet colors, the white of the upper cabinets, the Ash gray for the base cabinets and the magnificent olive of the peninsula are proof that you don't have to be afraid of using more than 1 color in your kitchen cabinets.
The kitchen layout includes a secondary sink and a secondary dishwasher! For the busy life style of a modern family.
The fireplace was completely redone with classic materials but in a contemporary layout.
Notice the porcelain slab material on the hearth of the fireplace, the subway tile layout is a modern aligned pattern and the comfortable sitting nook on the side facing the large windows so you can enjoy a good book with a bright view.
The bamboo flooring is continues throughout the house for a combining effect, tying together all the different spaces of the house.
All the finish details and hardware are honed gold finish, gold tones compliment the wooden materials perfectly.
Sustainable HomeThe side of the island has convenient storage for cookbooks and other essentials. The strand woven bamboo flooring looks modern, but tones with the oak flooring in the rest of the house.

Bulles & Taille-crayonLe salon autrefois séparé de la cuisine a laissé place à une pièce unique. L'ouverture du mur porteur a pris la forme d'une arche pour faire écho a celle présente dans l'entrée. Les courbes se sont invitées dans le dessin de la verrière et le choix du papier peint. Le coin repas s'est immiscé entre la cuisine et le salon. L'ensemble a été conçu sur mesure pour notre studio.

Susan Yeley HomesNearly two decades ago now, Susan and her husband put a letter in the mailbox of this eastside home: "If you have any interest in selling, please reach out." But really, who would give up a Flansburgh House?
Fast forward to 2020, when the house went on the market! By then it was clear that three children and a busy home design studio couldn't be crammed into this efficient footprint. But what's second best to moving into your dream home? Being asked to redesign the functional core for the family that was.
In this classic Flansburgh layout, all the rooms align tidily in a square around a central hall and open air atrium. As such, all the spaces are both connected to one another and also private; and all allow for visual access to the outdoors in two directions—toward the atrium and toward the exterior. All except, in this case, the utilitarian galley kitchen. That space, oft-relegated to second class in midcentury architecture, got the shaft, with narrow doorways on two ends and no good visual access to the atrium or the outside. Who spends time in the kitchen anyway?
As is often the case with even the very best midcentury architecture, the kitchen at the Flansburgh House needed to be modernized; appliances and cabinetry have come a long way since 1970, but our culture has evolved too, becoming more casual and open in ways we at SYH believe are here to stay. People (gasp!) do spend time—lots of time!—in their kitchens! Nonetheless, our goal was to make this kitchen look as if it had been designed this way by Earl Flansburgh himself.
The house came to us full of bold, bright color. We edited out some of it (along with the walls it was on) but kept and built upon the stunning red, orange and yellow closet doors in the family room adjacent to the kitchen. That pop was balanced by a few colorful midcentury pieces that our clients already owned, and the stunning light and verdant green coming in from both the atrium and the perimeter of the house, not to mention the many skylights. Thus, the rest of the space just needed to quiet down and be a beautiful, if neutral, foil. White terrazzo tile grounds custom plywood and black cabinetry, offset by a half wall that offers both camouflage for the cooking mess and also storage below, hidden behind seamless oak tambour.

Refresh and BuildWe made a one flow kitchen/Family room, where the parents can cook and watch their kids playing, Shaker style cabinets, quartz countertop, and quartzite island, two sinks facing each other and two dishwashers. perfect for big family reunion like thanksgiving.
