Rustic-Modern Finnish Kitchen
Our client was inclined to transform this kitchen into a functional, Finnish inspired space. Finnish interior design can simply be described in 3 words: simplicity, innovation, and functionalism. Finnish design addresses the tough climate, unique nature, and limited sunlight, which inspired designers to create solutions, that would meet the everyday life challenges. The combination of the knotty, blue-gray alder base cabinets combined with the clean white wall cabinets reveal mixing these rustic Finnish touches with the modern. The leaded glass on the upper cabinetry was selected so our client can display their personal collection from Finland.
Mixing black modern hardware and fixtures with the handmade, light, and bright backsplash tile make this kitchen a timeless show stopper.
This project was done in collaboration with Susan O'Brian from EcoLux Interiors.

AFTER: Taken from the living room and looking through where the counter-to-ceiling wall used to separate the kitchen and living room. A large granite counter with a 48" round "table" at the end now replaces the tiny eating area, comfortably seating 4. The table part of the counter is supported by a re-purposed, intricately carved wood table base originally topped by a glass table top. The desk area at the left side of the back wall was demolished and the back counter and cabinets now extend all the way to the window wall, allowing for more kitchen storage. The laminate cabinets were replaced with glazed wood cabinets. The floors (previously tile and carpet) throughout this level of the home were replaced with hand-scraped Acacia wood.

We chose Island Stone glass tiles that give a subtle nod to the Capitola Beach vibe. We chose colors that perfectly match the Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light paint color. The Caesarstone countertops provide a durable, beautiful surface for the multitude of kitchen tasks.

Old World European, Country Cottage. Three separate cottages make up this secluded village over looking a private lake in an old German, English, and French stone villa style. Hand scraped arched trusses, wide width random walnut plank flooring, distressed dark stained raised panel cabinetry, and hand carved moldings make these traditional farmhouse cottage buildings look like they have been here for 100s of years. Newly built of old materials, and old traditional building methods, including arched planked doors, leathered stone counter tops, stone entry, wrought iron straps, and metal beam straps. The Lake House is the first, a Tudor style cottage with a slate roof, 2 bedrooms, view filled living room open to the dining area, all overlooking the lake. The Carriage Home fills in when the kids come home to visit, and holds the garage for the whole idyllic village. This cottage features 2 bedrooms with on suite baths, a large open kitchen, and an warm, comfortable and inviting great room. All overlooking the lake. The third structure is the Wheel House, running a real wonderful old water wheel, and features a private suite upstairs, and a work space downstairs. All homes are slightly different in materials and color, including a few with old terra cotta roofing. Project Location: Ojai, California. Project designed by Maraya Interior Design. From their beautiful resort town of Ojai, they serve clients in Montecito, Hope Ranch, Malibu and Calabasas, across the tri-county area of Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles, south to Hidden Hills.

The kitchen doesn't look dull and gloomy despite the fact that it only has one window. The main advantage of the kitchen is the abundance of sparkling surfaces of cabinets and countertops.
The surfaces perfectly reflect the light entering the room through the window and make the kitchen not only bright, but also visually spacious creating a warm, cozy, and friendly atmosphere inside the kitchen.
The Grandeur Hills Group design studio is always ready to help you elevate your kitchen interior design so that it may completely meet your desires, needs, and tastes.
