When she was ready to build, she enlisted Shelter Architecture to design a space that is both exquisite and functional. A contemporary compact cooks kitchen is integrated in each apartment including an island preparation space and storage, integrated sink, drawer dishwasher, integrated rangehood, gas cooktop and oven. Luxe features including matte black tapware, soft close fixes and smoked mirrored splashback add to the spacious feel of the kitchen and adjacent dining space.
Mitchell & Best HomesExpansive kitchen with a free-standing island, plenty of counter space, industrial-sized appliances, and glamorous details throughout. The black countertops contrast beautifully with brown cabinetry and stainless steel fixtures.
Maraya Interior DesignModern Home Interiors and Exteriors, featuring clean lines, textures, colors and simple design with floor to ceiling windows. Hardwood, slate, and porcelain floors, all natural materials that give a sense of warmth throughout the spaces. Some homes have steel exposed beams and monolith concrete and galvanized steel walls to give a sense of weight and coolness in these very hot, sunny Southern California locations. Kitchens feature built in appliances, and glass backsplashes. Living rooms have contemporary style fireplaces and custom upholstery for the most comfort.
Bedroom headboards are upholstered, with most master bedrooms having modern wall fireplaces surounded by large porcelain tiles.

CantoniMarc and Mandy Maister were clients and fans of Cantoni before they purchased this harbor home on Balboa Island. The South African natives originally met designer Sarah Monaghan and Cantoni CEO Michael Wilkov at a storewide sale, and quickly established a relationship as they bought furnishings for their primary residence in Newport Beach.
So, when the couple decided to invest in this gorgeous second home, in one of the ritziest enclaves in North America, they sought Sarah’s help in transforming the outdated 1960s residence into a modern marvel. “It’s now the ultimate beach house,” says Sarah, “and finished in Cantoni from top to bottom—including new Bontempi cabinetry installed throughout.”
