Distressed wood: The wood is cedar that's been treated to look distressed! My client is brilliant , so he did some googling (is that a word?) and came across several sites that had a recipe to do just that. He put a steel wool pad into a jar of vinegar and let it sit for a bit. In another jar, he mixed black tea with water. Brush the tea on first and let it dry. Then brush on the steel wool/vinegar (don't forget to strain the wool). Voila, the wood turns dark.

Edmond Kitchen & Bath LLCThis creative transitional space was transformed from a very dated layout that did not function well for our homeowners - who enjoy cooking for both their family and friends. They found themselves cooking on a 30" by 36" tiny island in an area that had much more potential. A completely new floor plan was in order. An unnecessary hallway was removed to create additional space and a new traffic pattern. New doorways were created for access from the garage and to the laundry. Just a couple of highlights in this all Thermador appliance professional kitchen are the 10 ft island with two dishwashers (also note the heated tile area on the functional side of the island), double floor to ceiling pull-out pantries flanking the refrigerator, stylish soffited area at the range complete with burnished steel, niches and shelving for storage. Metropolis Drafting and Construction IncComplete overhaul of the common area in this wonderful Arcadia home.
The living room, dining room and kitchen were redone.
The direction was to obtain a contemporary look but to preserve the warmth of a ranch home.
The perfect combination of modern colors such as grays and whites blend and work perfectly together with the abundant amount of wood tones in this design.
The open kitchen is separated from the dining area with a large 10' peninsula with a waterfall finish detail.
Notice the 3 different cabinet colors, the white of the upper cabinets, the Ash gray for the base cabinets and the magnificent olive of the peninsula are proof that you don't have to be afraid of using more than 1 color in your kitchen cabinets.
The kitchen layout includes a secondary sink and a secondary dishwasher! For the busy life style of a modern family.
The fireplace was completely redone with classic materials but in a contemporary layout.
Notice the porcelain slab material on the hearth of the fireplace, the subway tile layout is a modern aligned pattern and the comfortable sitting nook on the side facing the large windows so you can enjoy a good book with a bright view.
The bamboo flooring is continues throughout the house for a combining effect, tying together all the different spaces of the house.
All the finish details and hardware are honed gold finish, gold tones compliment the wooden materials perfectly.

Nancy Finneson | DeMane DesignOrganized drawers, like these. make cooking easier. These great cooks needed a space that allowed for entertaining and multiple work zones. Storage was optimized and is efficient with pull-outs and dividers. The kitchen has almost doubled in size and now includes two dishwashers for easy clean up.
