Larkspur Lane DesignWhen selling your home, It can be a mistake to rip out an original kitchen or bathroom if it is in good condition, has all the mod cons people expect and can showcase the potential for future adaptation or renovations. This kitchen had been previously updated in the 1970s - as in wood grain bench tops and brown wall tiles - but had great storage, and the potential for further floor space by closing off two of the four doors into the room. So instead of demolishing and starting over, extra space was created for a dishwasher and open shelving for vintage kitchenalia to be displayed, new "retro" wall tiles, a vintage double sink, tapware, new bench tops and handles were added to bring back that cheery 1950s feel, while also improving function.
Result? A kitchen that sold the house to some young mid century enthusiasts!
LilaI built inserts for spice organization out of scrap wood. This drawer unit is for a bathroom, so is lower than kitchen cabinets. I built a cutting board on top of the unit to bring it up to height.

For this kitchen transformation, the Welford range was used, known for its timeless design. The cabinetry is painted matte black, making the space look cosier and more inviting, while the silver coloured metal handles add a subtle touch of elegance.
The Laminate worktops offer a sturdy space that’s easy to maintain and come in a beautiful wood finish, adding a lot of warmth to the space while providing some contrast to the dark coloured cabinetry. An island, also with a Laminate surface, was built in the centre of the kitchen as an additional workspace, creating a seamless flow in the room.
This kitchen features state-of-the-art appliances and plenty of closed storage for effortless organisation, ensuring that the whole space is functional.

Cummings Architecture + InteriorsBlending contemporary and historic styles requires innovative design and a well-balanced aesthetic. That was the challenge we faced in creating a modern kitchen for this historic home in Lynnfield, MA. The final design retained the classically beautiful spatial and structural elements of the home while introducing a sleek sophistication. We mixed the two design palettes carefully. For instance, juxtaposing the warm, distressed wood of an original door with the smooth, brightness of non-paneled, maple cabinetry. A cork floor and accent cabinets of white metal add texture while a seated, step-down peninsula and built in bookcase create an open transition from the kitchen proper to an inviting dining space. This is truly a space where the past and present can coexist harmoniously.
