Pineapple House Interior DesignPineapple House creates style and drama using contrasting bold colors -- primarily midnight black with snow white, set upon dark hardwood floors. Upon entry, an inviting conversation area consisting of four over-sized swivel chairs upholstered in taupe mohair surround the parlor's white painted brick fireplace. Their electronics and entertainment center are hidden in two washed oak cabinets.
The Design GalleryOur remodeled 1994 Deck House was a stunning hit with our clients. All original moulding, trim, truss systems, exposed posts and beams and mahogany windows were kept in tact and refinished as requested. All wood ceilings in each room were painted white to brighten and lift the interiors. This is the view looking from the living room toward the kitchen. Our mid-century design is timeless and remains true to the modernism movement.
Collaborative Interior DesignWe took advantage of the double volume ceiling height in the living room and added millwork to the stone fireplace, a reclaimed wood beam and a gorgeous, chandelier. The sliding doors lead out to the sundeck and the lake beyond. TV's mounted above fireplaces tend to be a little high for comfortable viewing from the sofa, so this tv is mounted on a pull down bracket for use when the fireplace is not turned on. Floating white oak shelves replaced upper cabinets above the bar area.
Studio SteidleyEvery once in a while we get a client who wants a color palette as lively as their personality and that is exactly what we had with this fun client! Using her existing rug as inspiration, we played off the bright and bold colors of it to create this beautiful Great Room with some added elements of surprise. These Rowe Thatcher chairs have a little "business in the front, party in the back" vibe with their creative backsides and the updated fireplace surround with cement tiles with an intricate pattern creates interest in what could be an uninteresting element. Brightly colored pillows and art add pops of color to the neutral palette on the walls and sofa. Lastly, this client loves to decorate with birds and these colorful drapes in her adjoining dining area have hidden birds on them. How cool is that?! Life is too short to live in a dull space!

UserThe living, dining, and kitchen opt for views rather than walls. The living room is encircled by three, 16’ lift and slide doors, creating a room that feels comfortable sitting amongst the trees. Because of this the love and appreciation for the location are felt throughout the main floor. The emphasis on larger-than-life views is continued into the main sweet with a door for a quick escape to the wrap-around two-story deck.

White Sands Coastal DevelopmentIn Southern California there are pockets of darling cottages built in the early 20th century that we like to call jewelry boxes. They are quaint, full of charm and usually a bit cramped. Our clients have a growing family and needed a modern, functional home. They opted for a renovation that directly addressed their concerns.
When we first saw this 2,170 square-foot 3-bedroom beach cottage, the front door opened directly into a staircase and a dead-end hallway. The kitchen was cramped, the living room was claustrophobic and everything felt dark and dated.
The big picture items included pitching the living room ceiling to create space and taking down a kitchen wall. We added a French oven and luxury range that the wife had always dreamed about, a custom vent hood, and custom-paneled appliances.
We added a downstairs half-bath for guests (entirely designed around its whimsical wallpaper) and converted one of the existing bathrooms into a Jack-and-Jill, connecting the kids’ bedrooms, with double sinks and a closed-off toilet and shower for privacy.
In the bathrooms, we added white marble floors and wainscoting. We created storage throughout the home with custom-cabinets, new closets and built-ins, such as bookcases, desks and shelving.
White Sands Design/Build furnished the entire cottage mostly with commissioned pieces, including a custom dining table and upholstered chairs. We updated light fixtures and added brass hardware throughout, to create a vintage, bo-ho vibe.
The best thing about this cottage is the charming backyard accessory dwelling unit (ADU), designed in the same style as the larger structure. In order to keep the ADU it was necessary to renovate less than 50% of the main home, which took some serious strategy, otherwise the non-conforming ADU would need to be torn out. We renovated the bathroom with white walls and pine flooring, transforming it into a get-away that will grow with the girls.
