To eliminate an inconsistent layout, we removed the wall dividing the dining room from the living room and added a polished brass and ebonized wood handrail to create a sweeping view into the living room. To highlight the family’s passion for reading, we created a beautiful library with custom shelves flanking a niche wallpapered with Flavor Paper’s bold Glow print with color-coded book spines to add pops of color. Tom Dixon pendant lights, acrylic chairs, and a geometric hide rug complete the look.

Dining space that harmoniously blends rustic charm with modern design. The room features a large, natural wood slab table with unique, organic-shaped legs, set against a backdrop of expansive windows that offer views of the outdoors. Above the table, artistic pendant lights with a raw, natural texture hang from an industrial-style ceiling, while the polished concrete floor adds a contemporary edge to the space.

This builder-house was purchased by a young couple with high taste and style. In order to personalize and elevate it, each room was given special attention down to the smallest details. Inspiration was gathered from multiple European influences, especially French style. The outcome was a home that makes you never want to leave.

WINNER OF IDS DESIGNER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2014 Like all the spaces we design, this room is totally about the people who live in it. True, the room started as a blank empty box, and while this couple likes architectural interest, the low ceiling was a challenge. Our solution was to add a wonderful niche – perfect to correct the uneven window wall AND indulge an architectural craving. Au courante grass cloth wallpaper and a modern rug are the perfect foil for the refreshing furnishings and appointments that span from 19th century to mid-century to modern.

Our Austin studio furnished the living room, dining room, and primary suite in this spacious, family-friendly home. Our clients have two children and wanted a home that is fun and functional. We furnished the living room with large sofas in subtle hues and accessorized the seating with colorful, printed pillows and cushions. The sofas are complemented with sleek chairs, a practical center table, and a printed rug that completes the look. We turned the fireplace into an accent wall with glass shelving and cabinets on either side. The dining room flaunts a simple round table with modern angular chairs, and the statement piece here is the chandelier. The palette in the bedroom is light and fresh with pastel linen, wood side tables, and glass lamps. We added mirrors behind the lamps for a unique look, and an intricate white chandelier adds the finishing touch. --- Project designed by Sara Barney’s Austin interior design studio BANDD DESIGN. Styling the dining room mid-century in furniture and chandelier really added the "different" elements the homeowners were looking for. The new pattern in the run tied in to the kitchen without being too matchy matchy.

In our work, we see lots of big homes with big spaces. We also see small homes. And we’ll be the first to tell you that size isn’t what matters. What’s important is scale. Through design, we can make a small space look big—or make a big space look small. But more important, we can use scale to make your home interiors meet your functional needs while reflecting your personality, values and style. The Eyes Have It. When you step into a room, where do you look? Directing the eye is one of the magic tricks that designers use to create a particular effect. Bright red apples in a simple glass bowl immediately draws the eye to a kitchen counter. The hefty wood trivet and rounded concrete planter containing succulents echo the shape of the apples and the bowl, while adding new materials. A wood and metal stand holds an iPad or book for easy recipe reference, all atop an elegant light granite counter. In a separate arrangement, ceramic artichokes create shape and shine but maintain the neutral color for continuity. In this context, the eye is drawn immediately to the bright red color. That’s why sparse seasonal decorations can be more effective than heavy ornamentation. We can actually take in more when there are fewer items to focus on.
