FINNE ArchitectsThe Eagle Harbor Cabin is located on a wooded waterfront property on Lake Superior, at the northerly edge of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, about 300 miles northeast of Minneapolis.
The wooded 3-acre site features the rocky shoreline of Lake Superior, a lake that sometimes behaves like the ocean. The 2,000 SF cabin cantilevers out toward the water, with a 40-ft. long glass wall facing the spectacular beauty of the lake. The cabin is composed of two simple volumes: a large open living/dining/kitchen space with an open timber ceiling structure and a 2-story “bedroom tower,” with the kids’ bedroom on the ground floor and the parents’ bedroom stacked above.
The interior spaces are wood paneled, with exposed framing in the ceiling. The cabinets use PLYBOO, a FSC-certified bamboo product, with mahogany end panels. The use of mahogany is repeated in the custom mahogany/steel curvilinear dining table and in the custom mahogany coffee table. The cabin has a simple, elemental quality that is enhanced by custom touches such as the curvilinear maple entry screen and the custom furniture pieces. The cabin utilizes native Michigan hardwoods such as maple and birch. The exterior of the cabin is clad in corrugated metal siding, offset by the tall fireplace mass of Montana ledgestone at the east end.
The house has a number of sustainable or “green” building features, including 2x8 construction (40% greater insulation value); generous glass areas to provide natural lighting and ventilation; large overhangs for sun and snow protection; and metal siding for maximum durability. Sustainable interior finish materials include bamboo/plywood cabinets, linoleum floors, locally-grown maple flooring and birch paneling, and low-VOC paints.
株式会社一級建築士事務所STUDIO MONAKA沖縄市松本に建つRC造平屋建ての住宅である。
敷地は前面道路から７mほど下がった位置にあり、前面道路との高さ関係上、高い位置からの視線への配慮が必要であると共に建物を建てる地盤から1.5mほど上がった部分に最終升があり、浴室やトイレなどは他の居室よりも床を高くする事が条件として求められた。
また、クライアントからはリゾートホテルのような非日常性を住宅の中でも感じられるようにして欲しいとの要望もあり、敷地条件と沖縄という環境、クライアントの要望を踏まえ全体の計画を進めていった。
そこで我々は、建物を水廻り棟と居室棟の2つに分け、隙間に通路庭・中庭を配置し、ガレージを付随させた。
水廻り棟には片方が迫り出したV字屋根を、居室棟には軒を低く抑えた勾配屋根をコの字型に回し、屋根の佇まいやそこから生まれる状況を操作する事で上部からの視線に対して配慮した。
また、各棟の床レベルに差をつけて排水の問題をクリアした。
アプローチは、道路からスロープを下りていくように敷地を回遊して建物にたどり着く。
玄関を入るとコンクリートに包まれた中庭が広がり、その中庭を介して各居室が程よい距離感を保ちながら繋がっている。
この住宅に玄関らしい玄関は無く、部屋の前で靴を脱いで中に入る形をとっている。
昔の沖縄の住宅はアマハジと呼ばれる縁側のような空間が玄関の役割を担っており、そもそも玄関という概念が存在しなかった。
この住宅ではアマハジ的空間をコの字型に変形させて外部に対して開きつつ、視線をコントロールしている。
水廻り棟は、LDKから細い通路庭を挟んで位置し、外部やガレージへの動線も担っている。
沖縄らしさとはなんなのか。自分達なりに検討した結果、外に対して開き過ぎず、閉じ過ぎず自然との適度な距離感を保つことが沖縄の豊かさかつ過酷な環境に対する建築のあり方なのではないかと感じた。
徐々に出来上がってくる空間が曖昧だった感覚に答えを与えてくれているようだった。

Chamber FurnitureAn amazing social space incorporating the kitchen, an island to seat 6, a liquid metal bar, wine storage and a 10 person dining table. All the furniture was over-sized to suit the scale of the room and the 3 metre high ceilings.
Jane EllisonA custom-cut piece of glass tops a Saarinen tulip table base framed by a curvaceous silk-velvet settee and a wood bench stands in place of a conventional dining set in the dining area. “I didn’t want the clutter of a lot of chairs” Jane says. “It would have interfered with the calm of the room.”
Timber bamboo, lustrous overscale Vietnamese pottery, a trio of sparkling Thai mirrors, and nearly a dozen candles interspersed with smooth dark stones enhance the dining area’s grown-up appeal.

Архитектурное Бюро Соколова КириллаЗаказчиком проекта выступила современная семья с одним ребенком. Объект нам достался уже с начатым ремонтом. Поэтому пришлось все ломать и начинать с нуля. Глобальной перепланировки достичь не удалось, т.к. практически все стены были несущие. В некоторых местах мы расширили проемы, а именно вход в кухню, холл и гардеробную с дополнительным усилением. Прошли процедуру согласования и начали разрабатывать детальный проект по оформлению интерьера. В дизайн-проекте мы хотели создать некую единую концепцию всей квартиры с применением отделки под дерево и камень. Одна из фишек данного интерьера - это просто потрясающие двери до потолка в скрытом коробе, производство фабрики Sofia и скрытый плинтус. Полотно двери и плинтус находится в одной плоскости со стеной, что делает интерьер непрерывным без лишних деталей. По нашей задумке они сделаны под окраску - в цвет стен. Несмотря на то, что они супер круто смотрятся и необыкновенно гармонируют в интерьере, мы должны понимать, что их монтаж и дальнейшие подводки стыков и откосов требуют высокой квалификации и аккуратностям строителей.
