We designed this bespoke traditional laundry for a client with a very long wish list! 1) Seperate laundry baskets for whites, darks, colours, bedding, dusters, and delicates/woolens. 2) Seperate baskets for clean washing for each family member. 3) Large washing machine and dryer. 4) Drying area. 5) Lots and LOTS of storage with a place for everything. 6) Everything that isn't pretty kept out of sight.

A curious quirk of the long-standing popularity of open plan kitchen /dining spaces is the need to incorporate boot rooms into kitchen re-design plans. We all know that open plan kitchen – dining rooms are absolutely perfect for modern family living but the downside is that for every wall knocked through, precious storage space is lost, which can mean that clutter inevitably ensues. Designating an area just off the main kitchen, ideally near the back entrance, which incorporates storage and a cloakroom is the ideal placement for a boot room. For families whose focus is on outdoor pursuits, incorporating additional storage under bespoke seating that can hide away wellies, walking boots and trainers will always prove invaluable particularly during the colder months. A well-designed boot room is not just about storage though, it’s about creating a practical space that suits the needs of the whole family while keeping the design aesthetic in line with the rest of the project. With tall cupboards and under seating storage, it’s easy to pack away things that you don’t use on a daily basis but require from time to time, but what about everyday items you need to hand? Incorporating artisan shelves with coat pegs ensures that coats and jackets are easily accessible when coming in and out of the home and also provides additional storage above for bulkier items like cricket helmets or horse-riding hats. In terms of ensuring continuity and consistency with the overall project design, we always recommend installing the same cabinetry design and hardware as the main kitchen, however, changing the paint choices to reflect a change in light and space is always an excellent idea; thoughtful consideration of the colour palette is always time well spent in the long run. Lastly, a key consideration for the boot rooms is the flooring. A hard-wearing and robust stone flooring is essential in what is inevitably an area of high traffic.

Efficiency is key in a utility room, and the layout features the highly sought-after layout of stacked appliances. The vertical configuration of the Miele washing machine and dryer maximises floor space, leaving more room for storage and workspace. The appliances are neatly built-in within bespoke cabinetry, making laundry tasks easier. No utility room is complete without a Shaws Butler Sink, an iconic feature that combines timeless design with exceptional practicality. Choosing a deep, durable sink allows you to perfectly soak laundry, rinse clothes, and handle all household tasks. Paired with the Perrin & Rowe Ionian Mixer Tap in Aged Brass, the utility room exudes understated luxury. The classic design and elegant surface, add a touch of vintage charm while providing the convenience needed for everyday tasks. With everyday life in mind, the utility room offers plenty of storage for cleaning supplies and laundry detergents. Behind the beautifully crafted shaker doors, there are generous cupboards and shelves, where everything is kept organised and out of sight. Adding to the look, handles and knobs were chosen from Perrin & Row – Shell Handles in Aged Brass and Large Contoured Knobs in Aged Brass. Bringing a contemporary edge to the heart of the utility room is a stunning Carrara Misterio quartz worktop, a luxurious and hard-wearing stone. Whether you are folding clothes, organising laundry, or dealing with detergents, the quartz worktop is resilient against stains and scratches, all while enhancing the room’s overall look.

Opting for classic in frame cabinets in British racing green, with antique brass ironmongery, elevates this utility room and makes the space feel more substantial than your typical utility room.

By stealing space from the garage we could add in a separate utility room. A working plan for laundry and storage requirements was worked out and all details considered for a bespoke highly functioning space. By using soft colour on the units and the walls we kept the space fresh and light.
