Searle & TaylorAs part of a large extension to a 1920’s house in Surrey, we undertook all the joinery requirements for the ground floor refurbishment, designing the kitchen, home bar, boot room and this utility room. We were recommended to the clients by Hampshire-based interior designers, Emily Steen and Danielle Marsh, founders of Wells and Maguire, with whom we have collaborated on numerous previous projects, and who created the overall interior design scheme.
This spacious 4530mm x 2400mm utility room leads directly from the open plan kitchen and living space and is accessed via a sliding pocket door with a fluted glass front next to the home bar. It was agreed in advance that the style and colour palette for the utility would reflect and complement the Shaker handmade furniture created for the in frame Classic Bespoke Shaker kitchen, except using oak MFC carcases and 22mm thick lay on doors which were then handpainted in Hage Blue by Farrow & Ball, the same colour used for the kitchen island and home bar.
While it needed to look aesthetically pleasing, the functions of this room are manifold being both a laundry room and a utility space. Housed within tall cabinetry is the boiler for the home next to a stacked washing machine and tumble dryer. Due to its proximity to the boiler, it is an airing and ironing room as well, and a hanging rail suspends from overhead cabinets to air clothing. It has a Belfast sink by Shaws, used for cleaning muddy boots and larger domestic items for the home and garden, and it is a herbarium. Potted plants sit alongside cooking and gardening books on open shelving and on the 30mm thick Misty Carrara Satinato quartz worktops, which have matching upstands. In addition, there are cupboards and top boxes for storing household items.

Higham FurnitureThe boot room cabinetry is finished in Paper and Paint Library Stone IV, using shaker fronts with 45mm rails and stiles. A built-in bench incorporates open shoe storage below, with a v-groove timber back panel fitted with Corston Mews hooks in Antique Brass. Above, a solid oak shelf finished in Rubio Monocoat White Oak provides practical display and storage, tying in with the oak detailing used throughout the house.

practice, we designed and built in house one of our
projects. This project we extended our arm of delivery
and made all the bespoke joinery in our workshop -
staircases, shelving, doors -you name it - we made it.
The house was changed over an air source heat pump
fed servicing from a boiler - further improving the
environmental performance of the building.

Distinct Innovations Pty LtdBuilt on the beautiful Nepean River in Penrith overlooking the Blue Mountains. Capturing the water and mountain views were imperative as well as achieving a design that catered for the hot summers and cold winters in Western Sydney. Before we could embark on design, pre-lodgement meetings were held with the head of planning to discuss all the environmental constraints surrounding the property. The biggest issue was potential flooding. Engineering flood reports were prepared prior to designing so we could design the correct floor levels to avoid the property from future flood waters.
The design was created to capture as much of the winter sun as possible and blocking majority of the summer sun. This is an entertainer's home, with large easy flowing living spaces to provide the occupants with a certain casualness about the space but when you look in detail you will see the sophistication and quality finishes the owner was wanting to achieve.
UserLocated in the heart of Sevenoaks, this beautiful family home has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment, of which Burlanes were commissioned for, including a new traditional, country style kitchen and larder, utility room / laundry, and bespoke storage solutions for the family sitting room and children's play room.
Culshaw Kitchen MakersThis recently installed boot room in Oval Room Blue by Culshaw, graces this compact entrance hall to a charming country farmhouse. A storage solution like this provides plenty of space for all the outdoor apparel an active family needs. The bootroom, which is in 2 L-shaped halves, comprises of 11 polished chrome hooks for hanging, 2 settles - one of which has a hinged lid for boots etc, 1 set of full height pigeon holes for shoes and boots and a smaller set for handbags. Further storage includes a cupboard with 2 shelves, 6 solid oak drawers and shelving for wicker baskets as well as more shoe storage beneath the second settle. The modules used to create this configuration are: Settle 03, Settle 04, 2x Settle back into corner, Partner Cab DBL 01, Pigeon 02 and 2x INT SIT ON CORNER CAB 03.
