Small San Francisco Landscape Remodel
Small San Francisco Landscape Remodel

This tired, unused San Francisco backyard was transformed into a modern, low-maintenance landscape with site-appropriate plantings enhanced by raised planting beds and a lead-free artificial lawn to replace the existing water-thirsty lawn. I created two separate "rooms" to break up the long narrow yard, and specified full range blue stone for the two small patio areas, connected by a curved pattern of rectangular pavers of the same natural stone. The raised concrete rectangular planting beds were incorporated to bring more movement and interest to the landscape along with gravel bed accents alongside. Some of the existing concrete remained, and was stained with a color to compliment the natural stone. These photos were taken over a three year period. Note how we always have large bluestone pieces at the edge because we lay out the pattern with AutoCAD. There are two more granite steps at the driveway. See the granite lamp post.

Hey Nice GardenHey Nice Garden
In Oakland we designed a small front yard that packs a lot of color. This new perennial garden is low-water and provides a lush setting in contrast to the wide open walkway to the front porch. The clean symmetry of the poured concrete path is offset by the wild display of flowering plants.

Our clients purchased their fourth Alitex greenhouse, this time a Hidcote, for their garden designed by Chelsea Flower Show favourite Darren Hawkes. Powder coated in Sussex Emerald’, the Hidcote sits perfectly in this beautiful valley, just a handful of miles from the Atlantic Coast. The kitchen garden was designed around the Hidcote greenhouse, which included raised borders, built in the same heritage bricks as the base of the greenhouse.
