This Mill Valley residence under the redwoods was conceived and designed for a young and growing family. Though technically a remodel, the project was in essence new construction from the ground up, and its clean, traditional detailing and lay-out by Chambers & Chambers offered great opportunities for our talented carpenters to show their stuff. This home features the efficiency and comfort of hydronic floor heating throughout, solid-paneled walls and ceilings, open spaces and cozy reading nooks, expansive bi-folding doors for indoor/ outdoor living, and an attention to detail and durability that is a hallmark of how we build. The conversion of a tub to shower has become increasingly popular as many people prefer the convenience and accessibility of a shower over a bathtub. It is a common remodeling project in guest bathrooms, especially for those with limited mobility or those who simply prefer showers.

This beautiful Pocono Mountain home resides on over 200 acres and sits atop a cliff overlooking 3 waterfalls! Because the home already offered much rustic and wood elements, the kitchen was well balanced out with cleaner lines and an industrial look with many custom touches for a very custom home.

Illuminating the columns and large trees that line the driveway give a dramatic effect to visitors approaching the home. The lighting also washes the space with light to add depth and direct the eye to different textures and shapes in the garden.

This dark, claustrophobic kitchen was transformed into an open, vibrant space where the homeowner could showcase her original artwork while enjoying a fluid and well-designed space. Custom cabinetry materials include gray-washed white oak to compliment the new flooring, along with white gloss uppers and tall, bright blue cabinets. Details include a chef-style sink, quartz counters, motorized assist for heavy drawers and various cabinetry organizers. Jewelry-like artisan pulls are repeated throughout to bring it all together. The leather cabinet finish on the wet bar and display area is one of our favorite custom details. The coat closet was ‘concealed' by installing concealed hinges, touch-latch hardware, and painting it the color of the walls. Next to it, at the stair ledge, a recessed cubby was installed to utilize the otherwise unused space and create extra kitchen storage. The condo association had very strict guidelines stating no work could be done outside the hours of 9am-4:30pm, and no work on weekends or holidays. The elevator was required to be fully padded before transporting materials, and floor coverings needed to be placed in the hallways every morning and removed every afternoon. The condo association needed to be notified at least 5 days in advance if there was going to be loud noises due to construction. Work trucks were not allowed in the parking structure, and the city issued only two parking permits for on-street parking. These guidelines required detailed planning and execution in order to complete the project on schedule. Kraft took on all these challenges with ease and respect, completing the project complaint-free! An atrium had been created with the addition of a hallway during an earlier remodling project, but had existed as mostly an afterthought after its initial construction. New larger doors and windows added both physical and visual accessibility to the space, and the installation of a wall fountain and reclaimed brick pavers allow it to serve as a visual highlight when seen from the living room as shown here.
