Crittal Style Aluminium sliding or folding doors

We are looking for Patio doors for a new kitchen extension. We love the 'crittall' style where each panel has horizontal glazing bars, but we would like aluminium sliding or folding doors to open the space up. Although I find lots of pics (see attached example) it seems impossible to source in the UK. Any suggestions?

      Can internal crittal style doors be fitted as fire doors? ( with appropriate glass)

      Are they suitable to be used with a pocket door system ( false wall already in place).

      only if they're certified fire-rated products made of the right materials (aluminium has no fire rating so it'll have to be steel or steel-clad) There's some general information to help you

      Anything is possible yes, but you will need a specialist company especially with pocket doors systems.

      My advise is also to appoint a Building Regulations Inspector who would approve the proposed spec and the doors before they have been manufactured and sign it off for you.

      To avoid complications, better use an experienced building contractor who can manage the process for you. The crittall doors are always made of steel which is fire rated, and they will need to be manufactured with fire resistant glass and fire/smoke seals. The Pocket system also needs to be fire resistant e.g. the sliding mechanism and the pocket stud construction etc.

      It will be very costly exercise though and you need to make sure it will be done properly.

      Thank you so much for taking time to respond. We’ve completed a full house renovation with pocket fire doors put in in place. They were intended to be only closed fully at night as they are to protect a staircase exit from 4 floors. However, now that we are using the space we close the doors them much more than we thought.

      We priced glass fire doors ( not crittal) at the time and these were quite a stretch on top of everything else - but now that this is all complete and have realised how much we use the doors we may go back and upgrade.

      Supplied by Marlin Windows in Keighley. Heritage aluminium. I went for French doors and surrounds instead of bi-fold. Judge for yourself what they look like. The quality is excellent. I would advise you use their recommended installers [Dayton Windows] who really know their stuff.

      I wouldn't worry about the company being local. I used Marlin in Keighley and their fitters had appointments as far afield as London and Newcastle. They use only one company who know all there is to know about these doors and windows. My builder tried to use his own fitter and Marlin's guys had to come and re-fit them [perfectly]. Everyone who has seen my doors loves them.

      @Lou Valdini Marlin have quoted for me but have advised I would need to find my own fensa fitter. I am in Kent. Do they definitely have their own fitters as i would rather have the same company to supply and fit?

      Marlin don't employ fitters but recommend Dayton Windows and Doors, whose fitters used to work for Marlin. Contact Ryan on 07902 449655.

      Is it part of a build? If so, you don’t need a FENSA fitter- it would be signed off under building regs certificate, so your builder etc could fit if capable.


      We used Fabco and our builder installed and it is all covered by building regs.

      Fiona - I’ve been looking into replacing some doors with Crittal style and have contacted loads of suppliers and companies. The one that I’ve been most impressed with is the company mentioned above by Lou Valdini - Merlin Windows in Yorkshire. (I’m in the East Midlands). They gave me a competitive quote really quickly and then I got a quote from the fitter mentioned. (They fit across the UK and they link in with Merlin to ensure timings etc). It’s likely that we will go ahead in the next few months. (Just need to convince husband as he prefers chunky timber 😂)
