Designdilemma belysning Stue

Living room lighting

Looking for ideas on lighting for my living room. Can't add any extra ceiling lights so what you see is what there is to work with. The lamp is from my bedroom and will be moving, I still need to add an IKEA poang chair in hillared blue, small table and chairs and a bigger potted palm to complement the blinds. The mirror will go opposite the window.

Don't want anything that hangs too low as the ceilings are only of average height. Intend to put a new lamp in also.

Lovely looking room. A couple of initial thoughts and I'm sorry, but they don't have anything to do with lighting. Yet! I would move the sofa out of the corner, if only just a little.

But I'm wondering if you'll have enough space to move it out of the corner enough to put a small table with a lamp there? And then you could put a floor lamp with the plant and chair.

I would not hang that particular mirror. It doesn't seem to go with the rest of your design. It looks a bit too classic/traditional (I might be wrong, difficult to see it well). And I'm not sure the gold works either.

I'll have a browse to see if I can find some lighting/table suggestions for you. I'm fairly sure other people will chime in too.

The lamps are nice but I've seen the shades at IKEA and they are far too big to fit. Even I (at 5ft4) would be hitting my head on them unfortunately.

I de gamle dage var alle (gløde)lamper varme (bogstaveligt og lysmæssigt). I dag LED-teknologien giver mulighed for både at regulere farvetemperatur og lysstyrke og dermed skabe smukt stemningslys til enhver situation: varmt lys giver hygge, kold lys aktiverer og giver energi. Til det "varme hjem" vil jeg anbefale en kobberlampe der "varmer" selv når lampen ikke er tænd. Tjek marinov.dk - locus bipes kobber, håber I kan lide det :-)

Det sidste år har jeg virkelig skruet ned for brug af stearinlys. Jeg har mine glaslysestager stående - for hyggens skyld, og fordi jeg godt kan lide lysets genskær i glasset. Men jeg har virkelig tænkt over den enorme forurening, brændende stearinlys indebærer. Alle disse sodpartikler, som fylder og forurener vores hjem, og som vi indånder. Man siger: jo større væge, jo mere sod og forurening. Derfor er fyrfadslys dem, der forurener "mindst". Faktisk synes jeg, det nemt bliver kvalmsk med duftlys. Hvis jeg ønsker at fylde mine stuer med en eller anden duft, bruger jeg æterisk olie (økologisk) - i en holder, som opvarmer olien, uden den bliver overvarm (=negativ effekt). De der holdere, som sættes over et lys, og som opvarmer olien, gør den faktisk toksisk. For dig, som kan fransk, er her linket til den i porcelæn, som ikke overopheder olien: Fransk porcelænsopvarmer til olie Du kan også bestille den online her: Amazon UK - Docteur Valnets porcelænsopvarmer til olie I serien fra Docteur Valnet findes et væld af æteriske økologiske olier, som også kan bruges i madlavningen. De kan bestilles online via amazon, medmindre du lige kommer forbi Frankrig. Især Odarome er et hit i mit hjem. Den renser luften og forfrisker rummene.

Super nice place with lots of options! Since it’s meant to be a sofa for watching movies in, the only right option (in my opinion) would be something that allows for laying down (or at least allow you to put your feet up). I would look for extra deep couches, something with a chaiselong or matching foodrest. I don’t have any specific sofa’s in mind, but a search on google on “flydersofa” or “dyb sofa” might help you out :) I also think some color would suit the space well :) - maybe a colored sofa, or at least some colored pillows in a more “neutral” sofa. The space already have a lot of beautiful neutrals, so a colored sofa would really stand out (in a good way) - but that is something that very much comes down to personal preference :)

A little bump as I'm still struggling with this and my decor is now pretty much done (pending some wall art and fixing that mirror up).

I'd like as much light as possible to be thrown from the single light fixture.

Someone suggested the IKEA bamboo shades but they're far too large for the room (ceilings are 2400mm high).

Thanks Carolina. I'm a bit reluctant to move the sofa much as I do need to fit a heater back in (got rid of the old broken storage heater, no gas supply to this block of flats) which used to sit in the middle of the wall. The sockets for which are currently behind the sofa, next to the palm.

Thanks Carolina, really like the lighting ideas and the nest of tables. Have you ever ordered from Wayfair before? I see it come up a few times but haven't been sure of the quality because of the price.

On heating, I've had a read up on far infrared and it seems like it wouldn't be suitable for my needs. To get best use I would have to install them on the ceiling in order to have the heat actually directed at people, which means having trunking all over the place. I also worry that as a ground floor flat, the infrared radiators wouldn't help in case of any damp or condensation. I haven't been here long enough and there are trickle vents in the windows but when I moved in there was mould that had built up around the windows. I'm on economy 7 and already have a small storage heater in the bedroom so it makes sense to have one in the living room too.

I have never ordered from Wayfair, but just last week I read a comment here somewhere that someone was happy with their service. However, you can probably find items like that in a shop where you can see and feel the quality. I've put the links in the comment, just in case you really, really like that specific item :-)

As far as I know, you don't have to put the infrared heaters on the ceiling for maximum effect. But again, it was just an idea :-)

I have ordered from Wayfair. It’s hard to pass judgement as the products are not their own and made by third parties etc so one thing might be great but another not so much. I have only ordered a toilet roll holder and I was very impressed by the speed of dispatch and quality of the item.

Thanks Lewis, I can't even pretend that I've settled on a lighting solution yet! It's still a bare bulb up there so your reply is timely. I've finally settled on hall, kitchen and bathroom lighting so soon I'll settle on the living room too.

Hi Antonia,

Your post caught my eye because your living room photo reminded me of my old home's living room. Initially we decorated it with crystal style lights (pendant, floor and table).
Later on we have changed the lighting to our starry ceiling panels that gave the room a completely different atmosphere.

I hope you will find the best solution to your living room lighting!
