I wouldn't normally be interested in what a rapper might do, but this guy seems to have a great head on his shoulders, a GREAT mom who raised him right, and knows how to give back! (And such an elegant wife!!) Great job on a beautiful transformation, HOUZZ! The designer did a lovely job without being overly intrusive or trendy - just what that house needed! Brava!

How moving to see such tenderness in a family. The house is, of course, wonderfully done. And I like that you kept Mother's dining table. Unlike Chris... I just don't have the words. Much brighter

You could just feel that love between Roberta & Chris and his wife, Eudoxie. It not only poured between those three, but into the house. Roberta's eyes were just sparkling with tears of love.

And Rachel, the designer was just awesome. You could tell, Chris didn't know a dang thing about decorating. Rachel took the "bull by the horns" and just let it fly. What really showed her own understanding of Roberta was when she painted that picture of Roberta's dogs. That was the topping on the cake. Roberta just couldn't stop staring at the piece of canvas! And I know she was tickled over the slide out step for her to reach the microwave!

Wonderful makeovers Houzz has been doing without all the usual celebrity stuff. It shows that celebrities are people, too with family and love. Thanks Houzz.

What a wonderful thing to do for your Mom!! Kudos to the designer who left enough of the original design that was there so Mom didn't feel displaced and added wonderfully to it - beautiful! I love Houzz!!!

I have to say, my son and I have been avid fans of Ludacris for years. We have had the pleasure of meeting his Mom, Roberta a few years ago when visiting Ludacris' restaurant in Atlanta, "Atlanta Straights", for his 14th birthday. Since that day, Roberta has been our favorite of the family, because of her grace, natural beauty and love of her family. My son still has his photo of Roberta and himself on his Facebook page from that day.

Beautiful story & remodel. I love the timeless pieces that were vintage and modern at the same time. What a great way to transform the space so his mother could really feel at home there.

What a lovely home. It's clear that it was a good, solid house, which means that Chris knew what he was doing back when. I especially loved the dog picture, even though I don't have dogs, because it's so cute. Too bad it's a custom piece. Everyone involved did a beautiful job.

I'm sure that there are many people who would love to be able to do this for their moms, but can't begin to afford it. If they are somewhat handy, for the cost of paint and some other do it yourself touches, they might be able to spiff up their mother's place.

Separately, someone mentioned Chris' star turn on Law & Order. He is a very good actor - totally convincing portraying a really bad guy. When it's clear that he's a really good guy in real life.

I love what they did with the kitchen and office, much more welcoming and friendly! But i prefer the deco and the sideboard in the living room before much more than the open shelf they put in there. I think the before version would have gone even better with the sofa etc. Such a hassle to clean the open shelf now. And I think the rug in the dining room is not pretty, I like the color, not so much the pattern, kind of out of place (personal preference). And only 4 chairs?

A truly elegant look for Chris' mother---what a classy lady. I love they kept some of her favorite pieces--it all flows so beautifully.

It's easy to make unfair judgements of character when you hear someone is a rapper. This was really great to see how grounded & down to earth Ludacris is. There are some celebrities who never forget where they came from, and this really shows great character. Love it!

Really enjoyed this little video. Every great mother deserves to be showered with love. Wish I had the opportunity to do the same for my mama. It means even much more to her when it becomes tailored to your liking.

This was the most skilled designer in these videos so far. She did a great job of working with existing pieces of furniture and wallpaper. So many of these videos just tear everything out but this woman was skilled enough to work without a completely blank canvass. Much harder, but more realistic. Nice job.

Touching story. Glitzy stuff and cute pictures are not at all to my taste and I would not be happy about someone else choosing stuff for me, even down to lamps and pictures. I don't know why his mother couldn't have been involved in the design. For me a surprise is not worth giving up choosing what I would have to live with, but they love her and she seems happy with it, so each to his/her own I guess.

I used to live in Atlanta and grew up listening to Ludacris. He is so talented and has brought fun memories into all of our lives with his music! It was so cool to hear him speak with such gratitude for his mother. I am also an only child of a single mom and I do architectural design for a living so this hit home in so many ways. I love this Houzz series and appreciate folks sharing something so personal to them. It makes such a positive difference in our lives when our surroundings/environment are an extension of how we feel and want to feel, and it starts with our home. A beautiful gift he has given her; awesome Mother's Day story! Shout out to Rachel for hand painting the dog pic - SO cute!

I was driving around miserable in Boston one day trying to decide what to do with my life and "Welcome to Atlanta" came on the radio. I made a decision to move by the time they got to "One Tweezy." A few months later I was moving into my first house in the ATL (Thanks Luda!) What a lovely family, designer and story.

HEARTWARMING...and also such a great website

This is a great story Chris! (Luda). I always wanted to do something special like you did for my mom, but we lost her suddenly in Jan 2015. It was my dream to remodel her historic house in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I remember growing up and my mom and I would drink tea together and look through magazines and books and dream about having a house built and decorating it together. When I married and moved away, when she came to visit me and my family she always put her touch on my house. Either painting an African stencil or arranging decorations she was so talented. We moved my family to Tulsa in 2010 after I'd been away for 14 + years. My goal was to build a house in my community growing up (or near). We finally completed the house early 2017, but my mom was not here to share this moment with us. This is the most painful part of it all. I wanted to do and share something with the most important person in your life - my mom. I will never have the opportunity. I'm so glad you did this for your mother! Cherish every moment! You did a great job expressing your love for your mom!

It's always a special treat to see an adult child give back to their parent. Thanks should also go to Ludacris' wife who was a huge help. I liked almost all of the reno, especially getting more light into the living room, ands the personal artwork of Roberta's dogs. That was the touch of a very good designer. The only thing I would change is put built-ins instead of the stand-along book shelves. Good job everyone!
