A unique blend of visual, textural and practical design has come together to create this bright and enjoyable Clonfarf kitchen.
Working with the owners interior designer, Anita Mitchell, we decided to take inspiration from the spectacular view and make it a key feature of the design using a variety of finishes and textures to add visual interest to the space and work with the natural light. Photos by Eliot Cohen

This was such a fun project working with these clients who wanted to take an old school, traditional lake house and update it. We moved the kitchen from the previous location to the breakfast area to create a more open space floor plan. We also added ship lap strategically to some feature walls and columns. The color palette we went with was navy, black, tan and cream. The decorative and central feature of the kitchen tile and family room rug really drove the direction of this project. With plenty of light once we moved the kitchen and white walls, we were able to go with dramatic black cabinets. The solid brass pulls added a little drama, but the light reclaimed open shelves and cross detail on the island kept it from getting too fussy and clean white Quartz countertops keep the kitchen from feeling too dark.
There previously wasn't a fireplace so added one for cozy winter lake days with a herringbone tile surround and reclaimed beam mantle.
To ensure this family friendly lake house can withstand the traffic, we added sunbrella slipcovers to all the upholstery in the family room.
The back screened porch overlooks the lake and dock and is ready for an abundance of extended family and friends to enjoy this beautiful updated and classic lake home.

It is always a pleasure to work with design-conscious clients. This is a great amalgamation of materials chosen by our clients. Rough-sawn oak veneer is matched with dark grey engineering bricks to make a unique look. The soft tones of the marble are complemented by the antique brass wall taps on the splashback

Our Customer is a baker, hence the marble insert in the island. The drawers behind the marble are fabulous for measuring spoons, measuring cups, rolling pin and all other sorts of baking tools.

Specially engineered walnut timber doors were used to add warmth and character to this sleek slate handle-less kitchen design. The perfect balance of simplicity and luxury was achieved by using neutral but tactile finishes such as concrete effect, large format porcelain tiles for the floor and splashback, onyx tile worktop and minimally designed frameless cupboards, with accents of brass and solid walnut breakfast bar/dining table with a live edge.

Lots of cottage dwellers enjoy time spent with family and friends in their vacation home year-round, surrounded by the vibrant colours of autumn and the peaceful environment characteristic of the Muskoka region. ⠀

This unique cottage kitchen is full of character and ready to host a large family gathering at any time of the year. It tastefully weaves together heavy, dramatic, industrial design, with warm, welcoming farmhouse ambience. For example, admire the way the dramatic black countertops and distressed black cabinetry are beautifully off-set by a large, white farmhouse sink, and tasteful accent open shelving on one wall. Note the many windows letting in natural light, and the airy feeling given off by the decorative "X" beams on the end of the island overlapping with a spacious breakfast bar. And who isn't charmed by the crate-style storage of staples like onions and potatoes?⠀
