Soaring ceilings particularly in a master can feel oppressively open and over scale. This room suffered from a lack of attention to detail and creature comforts that warm a master. Walls were faux painted in a rich European styled plaster adding character and texture. Ceiling beams were placed, expanding on the European B&B feel. (I want this room to feel like a ‘destination’ – think- best hotel room ever!) The one of a kind antique iron gates accompanied with antique mirror backing and mounted sconces flanking the bed add a touch of sparkle and charm. The custom, hidden fan inside the ‘chandelier or rather ‘chandel-air’ solved the design dilemma of both function and beauty! The built in entertainment center serves several purposes: a home for the TV and components, the false depth offers space for the wine cabinet in the next room and it is also a built in kennel for their precious doggies! This omitted the need for an exposed dog crate in the room!
Using design to solve a dilemma, I ‘cheated’ into the master bedroom space making a way to add a full feathered wine cabinet in the adjoining grand entry hallway. The client’s love for fine wines demanded a space to show, store, and enjoy wine with friends. The master suite provided the necessary space with no down side to the function or elegance of the room.

This Main Powder Room, as a part of an entire house project was designed by Jonathan Hopp for our client in Pacific Palisades, CA. We resurfaced the entire house interior walls because I didn't want to do wall glazing or specialty Venetians over orange peel texture. No way to get around it. Orange peel is about as stylish and ill-fitting in a home as polyester pants are on any person. Once smooth, the walls & ceilings became an extraordinarily fun canvas to create our faux finishes, venetian plasters, faux wood & furniture finishes on moldings, trims and details. This Powder Room was treated to coatings of rich chocolate venetian plasters and bronzed & crackled Crown Molding treatments with beautiful trim lines gilded in silver and burned to a sophisticated aged bling to add just the right "necklace with the dress".

Adamik and Churney provided for a dividing wall to separate the kitchen from the living area, a decision that expanded possibilities in terms of how to best layout the space. At merely five-feet tall, the partition maintains the open-air feeling of the space, yet is ample enough to accommodate the entertainment center.
In order to unify the Living and Dining areas, Adamik chose a large-scale seagrass rug. It is latex-padded, making it not only comfortable under foot, but also an improvement in terms of sound dampening. "I layered an indigo blue Pakistani Gabbeh over the seagrass to define the living room," the designer explains. The layering of various textures and materials adds to the room's understated depth.

This space was a very small bedroom which was converted to an office, incorporating a custom built in wall unit maximizing one entire wall and a half closet on the adjacent wall. The additional depth of the half closet creates much needed cabinet space and an extra deep shelf for the printer.

Since the whole space is intended primarily as a master suite, the bed is simply tucked into the space created by a dormer. This makes it feel cozy and private, but connected to the rest of the attic.

This ceiling was raw/exposed wood when we started. After applying an odorless oil primer, we then top coated using a semi-gloss white.
