Here we removed the chimney breast separating the kitchen and dining space, and altered the doors and windows in the space. Overall it gives one large, open-plan kitchen/living/dining room.

Carved Custom CabinetsThis Spanish colonial panel style from carvedcabinet.com (Carved Custom Cabinets) was inspired by a 200 year old, small, hand carved trunk on legs displayed in the Museum of New Mexico. It was found in a village north of Santa Fe. The trim surrounding the panels was inspired by a book on the history of woodworking in New Mexico. Finished in a honey (Miel) with dark glaze to enhance the carving and medium distressing.
The full wall treatment using azul palido tiles is enhanced by insets of tile inspired by the folk art images taken from the vintage Mexican game of 'Lotteria'. The 'Lotteria' tile was designed and made specifically for this exciting project which is located in Tesuque, New Mexico.
Stove is a vintage O'Keefe and Merritt.
Mikiten ArchitectureFlexibility is the key to Universal Design. This kitchen has tall pull-out storage for easy access when seated or standing, and upper cabinets have pull-down shelf units that rotate out and down to countertop height.

Nar Design GroupThis fun classic kitchen in Gold River features Columbia frameless cabinets in Sandy Hook grey. A green glass backsplash in a random matte and polished pattern complements the cabinets which are faced with both painted wood and frosted glass. The Silestone countertops in the Lyra finish have an ogee bullnose edge. The floors are finished in a rich brown porcelain tile of varying sizes that are made to resemble distressed wood.

Larkspur Lane DesignWhen selling your home, It can be a mistake to rip out an original kitchen or bathroom if it is in good condition, has all the mod cons people expect and can showcase the potential for future adaptation or renovations. This kitchen had been previously updated in the 1970s - as in wood grain bench tops and brown wall tiles - but had great storage, and the potential for further floor space by closing off two of the four doors into the room. So instead of demolishing and starting over, extra space was created for a dishwasher and open shelving for vintage kitchenalia to be displayed, new "retro" wall tiles, a vintage double sink, tapware, new bench tops and handles were added to bring back that cheery 1950s feel, while also improving function.
Result? A kitchen that sold the house to some young mid century enthusiasts!
