Houzz Acquires Home and Gardening Community GardenWeb from NBCUniversal

Houzz Inc., the leading platform for home remodeling and design, today announced the acquisition of GardenWeb, the long-standing home and gardening community, from NBCUniversal. The addition of GardenWeb enhances the rich content and suite of discussions on Houzz, and solidifies the company’s position as the largest home community online with over 35 million monthly unique users, 90 percent of whom are homeowners.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the incredible GardenWeb community to Houzz, which shares the same passion for homes and gardens as our community members,” said Adi Tatarko, cofounder and CEO of Houzz. “Bringing GardenWeb’s vibrant and engaged users, forums and resources together with the Houzz platform will provide a richer content experience for the unified community.”

Since it was founded in 1995, the GardenWeb community has been a bastion of home and gardening advice on the Internet. The addition of GardenWeb gives Houzz users access to over 2.8 million discussion threads, over 14 million discussion posts, and nearly 400 discussion topics for home and gardening enthusiasts. Millions of people participate in discussions on Houzz every month to provide and find advice for their home renovation and design projects.

This is the first acquisition for Houzz, which was founded as a side project in 2009 to help founders Adi Tatarko and Alon Cohen with their home remodel. Today, over 35 million monthly unique users around the world collaborate with over 800,000 active home professionals from architects, designers, contractors and more who use platform to build their brands, collaborate on projects and connect with homeowners. Houzz provides the only end-to-end resource for home renovation and design where people can find inspiration, get advice from the largest home community on the web, collaborate with others involved in the process, research and hire professionals, buy products, and manage home projects from start to finish.
