A Mother’s Day Surprise: Taraji P. Henson Surprises Stepmom with a Home Renovation in Latest “My Houzz” Episode

Houzz Inc., the leading platform for home remodeling and design, today released the latest episode of “My Houzz,” an online series that follows people as they renovate the home of someone meaningful to them. In time for Mother’s Day, the episode features actress Taraji P. Henson as she surprises her stepmother, Angie, with a renovation of her home in the Washington, D.C., area. The episode is available to watch now at houzz.com/myhouzz.

Angie lives in the home that she and Henson’s father bought and lived in together until he passed away in 2006. Once a drawer broke while Henson was helping out in the kitchen, she knew it was due for an update. Working with Stephanie Gamble Interiors, an interior design firm from the Houzz community, Henson surprises Angie with a fully renovated kitchen, living room and dining room, bringing soft touches, modern finishes and lots of light into the home.

“Angie stepped into my father’s life and I just loved her right away. With this renovation, I wanted to make the house hers, while still keeping my dad in it,” said Henson. “Using Houzz made this the most stress-free renovation I’ve ever experienced in my life, from finding an amazing interior designer to collaborating using ideabooks and buying everything in one place on the Houzz Shop. Love was put into this place and you can feel it.”

Prior episodes of “My Houzz” have featured Ashton Kutcher, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Gordon Ramsay, Kyrie Irving, Jenna Fischer, Ludacris, Clay Matthews, Mario Lopez, Olivia Munn, Tony Hawk, Deshaun Watson, Neil Patrick Harris, and Kate Upton. Each episode documents a well-known public figure as they surprise someone who has made a difference in their life with the gift of a renovation, using Houzz throughout the journey.

More information on Henson’s inspiration and Houzz ideabooks, as well as products and materials used in the renovation, are available on Houzz at www.houzz.com/myhouzz.

“My Houzz” was shot for Houzz by Shed Media and was executive produced by Ashton Kutcher, Pam Healey, John Hesling, Bill Gaudsmith and Dan Pierson.
