I am in the business of creating authentic architecture that fits naturally in the surroundings and harmoniously with the site. Over the years my focus has evolved to include greater promotion of environmental sustainability through design and innovation, with a strong emphasis on balancing the aesthetics and functionality. Where I differ from other architects and designers is in my effort to create buildings that not only solve my clients’ needs, but also enhance their lives by utilizing creative solutions that allow for uniquely attractive spaces. I find that, most of the time, a little extra effort is all that is necessary to generate a building design that will merge form and function into an amazing result. A sustainable “green” building that is unattractive is not an option for me. I need, and seek, extraordinary clients that are looking for, and require, extraordinary projects.

Alan designed our three-story contemporary, LEED rated, craftsman single-family dwelling in San Mateo, The end product was a an attractive, well designed home that worked for our large family needs. As customers, we were obsessive about measurements and details. He was a joy to work with and we looked forward to our visits! Highly recommended, will definitely use again for our next project.

Peter Wood

Alan became a good friend when we worked on a major residential build in Los Altos Hills. He designed a gorgeous 6000 ft house making the most of the 3 acre hillside setting and the extensive peninsula views. I found him to be a very talented architect with the skills needed to design the extensive pier and beam foundations, to layout a delightful living space including a magnificent kitchen, a pool and an expansive entertaining deck. Alan was able to translate a general design idea into detailed working drawings that were "right first time" and which were easy to get through the various city department approvals. He understands planning and building regulations and how to work with the authorities! I find him to be a man of high integrity, conscientious, hard working and very easy to communicate with... and he won't let you down and he won't overcharge....

I have worked with Architect Alan Olin on more than dozen projects. These were mainly residential projects: additions, larger remodels, and a new pool house. Alan is an experienced registered professional with extensive knowledge of local and state codes and requirements. He understands clients' needs, and knows how to apply his expertise and talent to each project individually. There could be a certain budget restriction or a demand for an extravagant architectural design. In either case, Alan is an architect that can adjust his architectural eye and work with you. He puts clients' needs first. As an engineer, I rate his understanding and sensitivity to the structural needs of a project to be at the very highest level. This is very important in order to have an economical and smart structure. Our clients always benefited from our cooperation and understanding. I very highly recommended Alan!

Our original vision only improved because Alan listened to us while effectively maintaining its design intergrity.
