We are a full-service Interior Design firm based in Evanston, IL. Whether you want to revitalize a room or create a whole new look, Lakeside Interiors can bring your vision to life. Fern Allison, owner and the main interior designer of Lakeside Interiors has had her design work published in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times and Pioneer Press. Fern has participated in HGTV's "New Spaces" designing a music and sitting room for a client. She was selected to be part of the House and Garden Designer Best of 2007 and has been recommended more than once in the Chicago Home and Gardens semi annual Best of Chicago. Her retail boutique was selected to be published in the Treasures of Illinois book series. In 2009 Fern was appointed a member of the Benjamin Moore Professional Design Board. Fern has been selected twice by the Merchandise Mart to represent them by creating a vignette for the DIFFA Dining by Design event. Fern is a past board member of the United Way and the Evanston Chamber of Commerce. Fern currently sits on the board and is treasurer of the Chicago Engineer's Foundation of the Union League Club of Chicago and The Charitable Foundation of The Woman's Club of Evanston. Fern also sits on the board of the Garden Club of Evanston and is chair of the Horticulture Committee.

I can't recommend Fern and Lakeside Interiors enough. Fern was the first to reply to my initial request on Houzz for built-in bookshelves, asked the right questions about the project to build her quote, and was prompt in providing her estimates. Her bid was extremely competitive without cutting any corners on the quality of the work. Her designs were comprehensive, with all factors considered at the outset, including what to do about existing trim and reinforcing the strength of the bookshelves to support the weight of my records. As a result, the initial quote was the final price, which is increasingly hard to find these days. Her team was professional and efficient, and the work was completed within a few days. The work is now the centerpiece of our living room. If I have any future interior work, I will think of Fern first. Quality work and competitive pricing, nothing more to say really.

Fern designed a bar for our home and she did an amazing job. The completed product is sleek, functional and has become a centerpiece of our home. I would highly recommend her.

We had a sloped ceiling in a small 3rd floor bedroom with no closet (see before and after pictures). I had reached out to a number of carpenters & closet companies, wasted time with appointments, only to be told the project was either too small for them or it could not be done because of the slope and small space. When I reached out to Fern, she was not only available to sketch out the project, but she was enthusiastic about it and reassured me that my daughter will not be living with a rolling rack and elfa shelves much longer. Unfortunately due to the supply chain issues with materials, it did take a bit longer to install than promised, but it was worth the wait. Fern helped us when no other contractor would.

Fern did a color consult for me, she helped me pick out paint colors for my new condo. She also gave me some great advice on how to layout furniture in my living room. Fern contacted me very promptly after I requested a quote, which was very nice. Especially since I was hoping to have colors and get my condo painted before my move in date. (about 17 days) Fern was knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with. She handled my indecisiveness very professionally. The sellers had the living room/kitchen painted a color that did no justice to the beautiful granite counters in the kitchen. Fern was very thorough in showing me many paint colors that would enhance their beauty. My husband and I love the colors she helped me pick out. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Fern again for design consult.

I first used Lakeside Interiors and Fern Alison for a kitchen upgrade in 2006. She worked within budget, always giving me several options (all of which I liked) and really got "into my head" regarding my tastes - not just what was trending. She also turned my Dad's home into my sanctuary after his death in 2010. She has subsequently done several other projects for me, including the latest, which we just completed last year. I bought a condo in the Gold Coast and she helped me furnish and decorate it. Again, she really has a great understanding of what I wanted even before I figured it out. That is one of her strengths! She has an extensive knowledge of furniture, fabrics and colors: from high end to bargain, and is very successful mixing things up to great effect. Fern also has a keen eye for artwork, which is a wonderful additional skill. She is very dependable and always on top of everything, from purchases to deliveries and contractors. The few times I found myself second-guessing her, I berated myself for doing so... she is very organized! For personal, efficient, and customized service, encased in a warm, knowledgeable, dependable designer, you really should look no further than Fern Alison and Lakeside Interiors.

Fern Allison, Lakeside Interiors is an absolute joy to work with! We first contacted her in 2007, at which time we redecorated our living room/dining room and bedrooms. We were so pleased with her professionalism and creativity that we readily contacted her again this year on kitchen and bathroom updates. On both projects I have been impressed with how Fern is able to incorporate our wishes and needs, while opening options for us to consider. It may be a unique wall mural, contemporary fabrics to update our traditional furnishings, beautiful light fixtures, to finishing touches such as high quality accent pillows or picture arrangement. Fern respects budgets and deadlines, and is consistently positive and enthusiastic in her efforts. I highly recommend her!

Fern helped me with the conversion of a bedroom to a home office. Small project and most of the consultation was on window treatment and lighting. Fern is very easy to work with, her taste is impeccable and her sense of budget is also excellent. I am so comfortable and productive in my home office.

I have been working with Fern since July on numerous projects in our home. We added a new family room to our first floor and created kids' bedrooms on our third floor. I showed Fern a few pictures from Houzz and she found fabric samples and colors that were perfect. Her follow-through and professionalism are admirable. Fern also helped complete pillows and window panels for our living room that were never finished by a former decorator! I highly recommend Fern/Lakeside Interiors.

Fern is a fabulous decorator who understands your needs and tastes and makes them better! Her help was so appreciated when we built a major addition on our home, and she helped with everything from paint colors to light fixtures to window coverings. I would recommend her highly.

Fern is simply great. She really listens to you, works within your budget, finds you solutions and partners. She's approachable and honest. And she'd do just about anything for a client. And in the event that something's not perfect, she makes it right. For example, she helped us get some custom cushions. The day they were delivered, she took the initiative to check in and make sure everything was perfect. A few of the cushions were sized a bit awkwardly (not her fault or doing), but I told her I'd be happy to live with them a bit. She insisted on coming over to check the cushions personally, took them back to the fabricator that day and got us new, perfect cushions in less that four days. Amazing. And honestly, it was a minor detail I'd never have even bothered about. That's what you want in a design partner. We'll be working with her again for sure!
