Michele has been actively involved in the creative arts since her early childhood in Connecticut. The expression of her creativity has taken many forms. A classically trained ballerina, Michele studied art history at the University of Pennsylvania. After a short stint in the art world of Manhattan, Michele decided it was time to strike out in a completely new direction by enrolling at the Law School of the University of Southern California. While attending law school, she also began to develop an interest in interior design. Living a block from the ocean in Venice Beach, Michele infused her own town house renovation with the free-spirited vibrancy of Southern California. After passing the California bar exam, Michele practiced as an attorney in Los Angeles specializing in entertainment law. Although working with up-and-coming musicians and artists was exciting, Michele wanted to return to the east coast and to develop her now expanding interest in interior design. After returning to NYC, Michele graduated from the New York School of Interior Design and worked for a Design firm for five years, as an interior designer and project manager in Manhattan where she specialized in high-end residential renovations. She also designed bathrooms and kitchens for HGTV’s home renovation shows, “Save My Bath” and “Spice Up My Kitchen.” Michele’s approach to interior design reflects a formal sophistication of Manhattan, softened and accented by the more colorful and carefree expressions of Southern California.

We hired Michele to manage the renovation and interior design of our four bedroom duplex in Manhattan. It was a large project that involved the renovation of a kitchen and four bathrooms as well as structural changes such as adding doors and closets. Michele also managed the decorating aspect of the entire apartment. Michele was an absolute pleasure to work with. Her attitude and demeanor are lovely, her fees are fair and transparent, and most importantly, we felt that she truly got to know us, listened and anticipated our needs and desires in making her recommendations and selecting materials. Her taste is impeccable. She manages to deliver an absolutely stunning product while respecting budget considerations. Throughout the process, Michele consistently came up with ideas and suggestions based on what she observed about us, and she consistently nailed it. We have two small children, and we now have a gorgeous, sophisticated apartment that somehow manages to be child friendly at the same time because she chose materials that are both luxurious and durable. Michele has amazing contacts and was able to address every need via her network. The millwork in our home is positively stunning and completely custom, all designed by Michele. She gave each room in the house a unique personality while achieving cohesiveness and flow throughout our home. She also worked beautifully with our contractors and electrician. I would recommend Michele without hesitation!

The project was challenging in that Michele had to work within considerable restraints and had to marry two very different styles. She was professional and efficient, and she did what the best designers do: she gave me what I wanted and helped me figure out what that was, as well as pushing me a bit out of my comfort zone at times. The project was finished on time. At the end of it all, my husband and I were so pleased that we are contemplating another project with Michele and her team. (Her team was also phenomenal.)

My husband and I had a wonderful experience working with Michele while we expanded our home and redecorated the interior of the house. I can only say positive things about her. We live outside of the city and Michele was extremely organized, reliable, and efficient when coming out of the city to work. She worked very well with our contractor to make sure the project was being done according to her plans. She came out every time with a tremendous amount of samples to look through and several options of furniture layouts and styles. We have a five bedroom, seven bath home and Michele managed to decorate it beautifully while keeping within our budget. She has a great eye for detail and the finished product is beautiful. I would highly recommend her!

Michele had an impossible task: design a dream kitchen for a completely restored Victorian on a tight budget that could be procured and installed within a very tight timeframe. We wanted the finished project to be highly functional, like a high-end commercial kitchen, yet at the same time keep to the architectural and historical integrity of the house. She did an amazing--almost telepathic--job. On time, on budget, easy to work with. Highly recommend her.

Michele Bitter Designs did an amazing job on beautifully completing my project on time and in budget. I needed my apartment in NYC to be completely repainted, floors refinished, new built ins, radiator covers, and mantle replaced all within two weeks. Michele prepared examples of all of the variations of colors that I had chosen and the floor color stain for approval. The next day she submitted the scope of work to a few of her approved contractors for my review and approval. After I decided on one of the contractors, she managed the entire project from start to finish. She inspected the work of the contractor every day to ensure that it was up to her high standards. The project was completed on time and in budget, including cleaning of my apartment before I moved in, which was especially important given the floor refinishing. After I moved in, the contractor also came back to complete small tasks such as hanging a chandelier and connecting it to a dimmer switch, as well as mounting a flat screen TV, at no extra charge. I could not have been more pleased with the outcome. The service that I received from Michele was excellent. All I had to do was call Michele with any changes and/or requests, and she arranged it all with the contractor so that the process was seamless and executed perfectly to my liking. Michele is an excellent interior designer and project manager, and I highly recommend her. She has impeccable taste and style, and strives to exceed her client’s expectations.

I have nothing but raves for this most consummate of design professionals. We had a large ($500,000+) and complicated project that required coordination, efficiency and most of all vision given the number and nature of rooms that were encompassed, as well as the demands of family members of all ages and tastes. We returned to our home following an absence of a reasonable length to discover a magical transformation that delighted us all. We were impressed throughout the course of our project by Michele's design abilities, sourcing of materials and project management, including an impressive facility with all nature of contractors, who were uniformly responsive and happy to work for her. I look forward to engaging Michele in the near future to work on my next property, and a I recommend her firm without reservation.

I had the pleasure working on a so many projects with Michele Bitter and I can say she is not only a talented and creative designer, but also one of the most professional, respectful, and organized designers that I have ever worked with. Michele is a terrific interior designer, imaginative, and she has wonderful taste. She is knowledgeable about the furnishings and fabrics available on the market right now; She can take a team made up of the vendors, the architect, the contractor and all their subs, and the movers and somehow make everyone pull together to get a completed project that everyone is proud of. If you are looking for an upbeat, talented professional, Michele is great, and gets the job right the first time. I recommend Michele absolutely, without any hesitation.

I have hired Michele to design and decorate all of our homes for the past five years. Since our family has moved frequently over the past decade, we have worked with several designers but once we found Michele, she has been the only person we have worked with and we have also recommended her to our friends. We have found Michele to be the most responsive, flexible, detailed and on point designer. Michele does a great job in understanding her client's objectives and aesthetics and seeing everything to completion. She has worked on everything from just minor decorative work on a rental apartment to decorating and minor construction on a weekend home to a construction project on a co-op apartment in NYC. She is as good as it gets and we will continue to work with her on future projects.
