Groves-Raines Architects Ltd. is a vibrant, friendly architecture studio based in the bustling hub of Leith in Edinburgh. We are Irish, icelandic, Scottish, English, Czech, South African and Canadian and around 25 of us work from our lovely 17th century merchant's house office right by The Shore. We are dedicated to the conservation and sustainable re-use of historic buildings. Our passion also lies in traditional architecture, the design of new buildings in the traditional aesthetic (essentially - built new and works like new but looks like it's been around for centuries!). Our modern design studio, GRAS provide state of the art, sustainable, contemporary design and, working in collaboration with them, we achieve a balance of imaginative design with sensitivity for the setting. We love visitors so please get in touch if you have any ideas on a new project or collaboration - we have been known to provide coffee and biscuits!

Groves-Raines are great to work with. Very knowledgeable, good communication both on site and remotely. They provided well presented plans for the job, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Highly recommend.

Groves-Raines Architects have provided Lead Consultancy and Architectural Services to Shetland Amenity Trust on a number of Heritage projects since 2004. These include the conservation of: Hays Dock and associated Store (built c 1820) - project value £1,100,000 Sumburgh Head Lighthouse Buildings (constructed 1821) - project value £5,400,000 Town Hall, Lerwick (constructed 1881) - Project Value £1,600,000 Client satisfaction is an imperative for the Groves-Raines team and when working with contractors, they do demand that works are finished to a very high standard. The Sumburgh Head Project was a great example of collaborative working: client; designers; contractors; etc. which delivered a project of the highest quality within time and under budget. In conclusion Shetland Amenity Trust would very highly recommend Groves-Raines Architects to other clients and will certainly use them again on future projects.
