From the firm's inception in 1992, the philosophy of Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture has reflected Jeffrey's passion for unique plant material and meticulous attention to the projects overall design concept. As a result, Jeffrey's designs are distinct in blending his unparalleled plant vocabulary, compelling concepts and thoughtful design solutions to provide each client with an extraordinary landscape. Initially, Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture's projects focused on high concept residential designs in the San Francisco area. In 1999, the firm expanded and relocated to the San Luis Obispo area where it continues to specialize in site specific designs for both residential and commercial projects. Jeffrey’s designs strive to marry architecture to site and develop a cohesive landscape design that looks like it belongs. He has a strong conviction toward a regional style, encouraging the owners of his designs to celebrate where they live and create a stronger connection through their landscape.

It is always a pleasure to work with Jefferey. The choices made on our collaborative Beach Mediterranean remodel were impactful and intelligent. He is personable, detail oriented, creative and knowledgeable.

Jeffrey astutely asked what we were missing inside our house as a way to inform his design of our landscape, and we discovered we were lacking a party room. He proceeded to create a backyard design that manages to feel festively intimate yet spacious, no matter the number of people around the fire pit, the central element of the design. Many of Jeffrey's designs feature a fire pit, and his experience with the appropriate use of scale and dimensions is apparent in the way people interact with it. Access to the back is via an Ipe deck strewn with festoon lights, creating a warm palette against the concrete of the fire pit area. Jeffrey is talented, decisive, and observant; he designed our garden remotely after one site visit and introduced us to our landscape contractor.

I discovered Jeffrey while looking through Sunset Magazine, where his work has been featured on numerous occasions. Upon calling him, I realized that he was several hundred miles away from my home in San Diego. Jeffrey informed me that he would be in the area later that month and would be more than happy to pop in and see what he could help with. I only had a very general idea of what I wanted but he was able to understand my desires and develop them into something far greater than what I could ever have imagined. He made me feel comfortable with his plan and convinced me to take some chances with my project. My landscaping is constantly praised by neighbors which validates his design and the quality of his work. I cannot recommend Jeffrey any more strongly.

JGS developed a landscape plan for our residence on the Central Coast of California and oversaw the installation by our contractor. But . . . Jeffrey did so much more. Working with our building architect and contractor he helped to create an integrated living experience inside and outside including plant selection and location, hard-scape, fencing, gates, paths, outdoor kitchens, seating and patios. His designs are practical and at the same time elegant and fun. He brought unique one-of-a-kind ideas to our project but also listened to our needs and preferences. Our landscape is now growing in and we love all of it! As it grows we continue to understand Jeffrey's vision and appreciate his art. Jeffrey truly has a special touch and eye for what will work and where.

Before moving to the Central Coast I contacted Jeffrey. He provided advice, at no charge, regarding what house and location was the best for me. Once I purchased my home and the project started he created plans/drawings and explained his concept. He gently pushed me out of my comfort zone to enhance the architecture of my home therefore, creating an outside space that blended simply and perfectly with the home structure. His creative talent, attention to detail, architectural design concepts created a wonderful outdoor living space that I truly enjoy. I respect him and enjoyed our collaboration on this project. I have recommended him to several friends and will continue to do so.

Jeffery has a gift. He is one of those rare designers who is able to think differently and in ways that revive, recreate and renew even the most chaotic spaces. His designs bring harmony and cohesion, flow with interest, drawing one into and through the space. It's brilliant, really, what he can do. He's patience and experience facilitates an easy process to the implementation on site. I wouldn't consider making any changes to our estate without consulting him. 2004 was the first time we were lucky enough to have found him and we are planning another project for 2014.

I don't know Mr. Smith personally but had the pleasure to rent two homes to his Cal Poly students. Both of them used our yards as their senior projects! Both did a beautiful job! Used local, Eco friendly, low maintenance, low water plants. They made Mr. Smith proud and us!

We asked for low maintenace and that's what we got. He's creative and works quickly, Easy to work with and stays within your budget. We're very happy with his design.

Jeffrey was recommended to us by a well known Santa Barbara architect. I was at first concerned that he wasn't local but it was no problem. He was on site for all of the important decisions and he and his team were always in communication when needed. Though working with a mid century modern home , the design is simple,organic and uses native plant materials for easy upkeep. We gained a larger yard, gorgeous hot tub, outdoor shower, and a naturally beautiful fire pit.....in short an outdoor living space that we use constantly. Jeffrey was easy to work with and listened to our concerns and ideas. The yard only keeps getting more beautiful as it matures. You can see his work under Santa Barbara Modern Ranch. Kommenteret: What is the pool deck material?I am only aware of large format pavers about 24"x24" concrete is very heavy so its hard to ship and or plave this is all poured in place. Thanks
