Ours was a relatively small project in the grand scheme of things (bedroom/ensuite renovation) and 4D handled it with their usual professional flair. We'd be happy to use them again.

I have worked with John Muir and his practice, 4D Studio, on many residential and commercial projects over a period of more than 20 years and his approach to the design brief is quite unique as he considers a design which is built around a Client's brief whilst maintaining a practical approach to buildability, cost and programme. As Cost Consultants, John has always come up trumps in delivering a cost-effective well designed building.

I have worked with 4D Studio on a number of high end residential projects over the past 5 years for clients who expect results and discretion. They have always delivered their projects on time and on budget. They have great empathy for the aspirations of both fellow professionals and their clients. Our schemes in London and South East have been technically difficult, varied in style and size, and invariably Listed buildings. They have repeat work from long held clients which speaks louder than this review ever can.

In achieving success in technically difficult projects I have been indebted to Freddie Brown who brings his state of the art knowledge and decades of practical experience to the specialist areas of environmental services. Freddie is a great communicator and deals with complex issues of mechanical and electrical engineering in a pragmatic way that helps keeps things simple and is easy to understand.

As Dev Director of Harbourland Ltd, I engaged John Muir of 4D Studio to design (and obtain Planning) for a complex mixed use scheme (residential, offices, restaurants) on a 130,000 sq,ft 18th Century Docklands tobacco warehouse. The results were truly spectacular and the flats all sold within a month as we were by far the best product on the market. Newham Planning Dept regularly use this development to showcase how to deliver leading design solutions for historic buildings. A great success in every respect and John remains our first port of call on all development projects, large and small.

This project was certainly challenging. These historic warehouses were listed and we had to research and devise solutions to the challenges of cleaning hundred's of years of paint off the soft brickwork, creating opening windows in the 'crittall' type windows (a first we were told) and solving the challenge of sound transmission through the floors above restaurants and nightspots. The resulting apartments are truly spectacular and I particularly like the secret terraces created by the recessed dormers in the roof. I must thank our client Greg Bell for giving us this opportunity not to mention a number of subsequent projects that have followed.
