The Practice We are an architectural practice based in Nottingham that design contemporary homes and extensions. Our approach is to listen carefully to and work closely with the Client, to see the design opportunities available, and then develop a design that surpasses expectations. It is always in the forefront of our mind that this is your home which you will be living in and so it has to be right for you. Our passion is to design for you. Whether that’s a bespoke staircase, the extension and remodeling of an existing property, or a new build home. Design and practicality is our focus We do this by spending time collecting all the pieces of the puzzle to form your brief. Understanding your needs and aspirations is fundamental to getting to the right solution and this can only be achieved through discussion. Once all the pieces of the puzzle are gathered, we develop the design over a series of meetings to get to the right solution. We feel that most of the time, simple ideas are the best. Complexity can be, well, just complex and uncomfortable. We like homes that people live in to be functional and to create comfortable places to be. We like to design with volume, height and natural light that create special places where life happens. We like small cosy spaces too that are retreats from the rest of the house, especially on cold winter nights when a roaring fire is the centre piece. Sight lines are important to us. Being able to visually open up and connect areas can create a generous feeling of space and inclusion with whatever else is happening in the home. But a carefully located secret door can also help to close spaces down when the mood takes you. We like linking the inside with the outside both visually and physically. Wherever we can, we like to include full height glazing with walls that open up to gardens and verandas, bringing the outside in and making the inside feel bigger and brighter. The environment is important to us and little things can make a difference. We like to build relationships with our Clients. From the start of the design process to the completion of the build can take some time. It should be an exciting time where our Clients see their new home taking shape before their eyes.
