'Our work is rich in colour, texture and light. The process of working with our clients is always great fun, detailed and important, but above all it is exciting and stimulating!' Based in East Sussex, Katherine and the team take commisions in and around Sussex, Surrey and London. Overseas projects are welcomed with extensive experience of working in Spain Katherine Richards Design provides a tailored design service focussing on the lifestyles and personalities of their clients. Katherine, whose background is in theatre stage and costume design, is particularly interested in lighting and the way in which her clients use colour and she is committed to ensuring they achieve their perfect living environment both aesthetically and practically. Katherine's experience means that she is able to fully understand the emotional impact our homes have on us and the importance of creating psychologically informed environments. With forty years of design experience Katherine Richards' clients can feel confident in the quality of the service they will receive and the value of the advice they will be given. Katherine and her team will ensure the smooth and timely delivery of projects which can vary from large refurbishments and extensions to smaller ventures. Introducing, a stunning new collection of limited edition lamps. Sculpted by Katherine Richards, each piece is individually cast in resin and meticulously gold leafed by hand. Our bespoke rug service offers more than 2,000 colours to choose from. The rugs are made from beautiful natural yarns such as New Zealand wool, Viscose and Bamboo Silk. We also use the best quality Tencel which adds an irresistible sheen as well as durability.

As a professional interiors photographer I've worked with lots of accomplished designers over the last 15 years. Katherine Richards Design is one of my favourite clients to shoot for as their projects are always inspiring, unique and reflective of a rare talent; I've always liked the way that Katherine's work doesn't simply absorb and regurgitate current trends but instead epitomizes a design process that produces interiors as individual as her clients. In today's homogenous society, Katherine's approach and ideas are a breath of fresh air. Don't follow the trends, be an individual. Katherine gives her clients the confidence to express their personalities in their most private spaces, their homes. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Quick Summary - Look at www.katherinerichardsdesign.co.uk - it does exactly what it says on the site! We purchased a beautiful 1903 Edwardian House with an overgrown garden and realised we needed expert help to restore this property. We are fast approaching our 1st anniversary with Katherine Richards Design and what a journey it has been. The world of interior design is more complex than the TV programmes lead you to believe and we are fortunate to have found an expert in Katherine Richards. Working with Katherine on any project from project management to choosing a sofa or door hinges, is truly an experience you own. Take our 10-year-old son who took the lead in designing his own suite of rooms. As parents we were able to step back and watch his imagination come to life. Katherine listened, nurtured and guided his enthusiasm and the result, a set of rooms he absolutely adores. It is a space he owns and loves living in. He delights in showing his friends and as he walks up the stairs you hear him talking, taking ownership. Our project will take a few years to achieve, we are constantly adapting our approach as we come to understand the property and are highly appreciative of the skills Katherine Richards brings. I am probably not the typical person to ask the help of an Interior designer. It does costs money but it is totally worth it! I enjoyed all stages ..... talking over ideas ....... living with Samples ....... being unsure about something and going through other ideas until it popped into the design ........ being open minded and excited about something new ....... using Katherines creativity along with some unusual treasures of my own ...... Not being worried about saying I didn’t like an idea as that sparks other ideas ..........having someone there to organise things ........ the great tradesmen that work with her ..... quality I now have a unique and happy place to live. I love walking through the front door and enjoying what we created together. Thank you

Our previous experience of interior designers had been of a prescriptive mode of working, in which the designer attempted to foist their taste and ideas on us, persuaded us that their designs had been especially selected for us, only later for us to discover that they were identical to the style the designer always uses! But Katherine is the exception to the rule - she really listens to her clients, gains an understanding of their tastes and needs, and then offers solutions within the client's financial constraints. She has a great imagination, is an inspiration to work with, and understands colour, texture and shape in a way that very few people do. We first met her at one of the extraordinary events she hosts to showcase her work, and were so impressed we immediately arranged a consultation which has led to many happy years working together. We have used her in three properties now, in London and abroad. She has not only designed interiors for us, but gardens and driveways too. She's also successfully project managed for us in Spain, making the whole process much less painful than we had experienced previously. No mean feat! She offers a unique and bespoke service, and scrupulously maintains privacy when required - something which has been particularly important to us. We can't recommend her highly enough!

We approached Katherine as we wanted new sofas and chairs for our living room, and advice on colours for our fire surround. Katherine put together a fabulous scheme and we worked closely to choose specific fabrics for the sofas, scatter cushions, and an ottoman. She also arranged for the restoration and upholstery of a Georgian wing chair, which looks stunning now. We had new curtains for our dining room and landing windows, neither of which were easy jobs due to the age of the house. These have completely made both areas. The quality of the workmanship is second to none and we have had many compliments from friends. The fabric choice for our dining room took me right to the edge of my comfort zone, but I'm so glad I trusted Katherine's opinion, because it looks beautiful. We have been delighted with the results of Katherine's hard work. She is highly professional, fun to work with and really up to date with current trends. Most importantly however, she really listened to us and totally took onboard what we wanted. At no point did she every overpower us with her view, however I had total confidence in her judgement and trusted her suggestions.

A few years ago, I moved from a Victorian home in the country to a smaller modern house in London. Although I have never been short of my own tastes and ideas, the contrast between the two styles of house really left my mind blank and my imagination failed me completely. I was recommended Katherine Richards' company of Interior designers and with some trepidation, I called Katherine herself to visit me. I think I had a preconceived idea of how interior designers work, but what a wonderful relief to sit down over coffee and be asked about my previous home, my work, my family, my interests and friends. I could see, as we talked, that she was listening and building up a picture of the sort of person I am. So when we eventually walked round the house and she made various suggestions, I could see how my new and unfamiliar home could look. Now, when my friends come to visit, they have all remarked on how comfortable and warm my living rooms are and how there is still a hint of the style they remembered from my much older and larger home. I would recommend anyone wanting advice, rather than needing to be told, to call in KRD. Katherine has a keen sense of understanding of her client which, allied to her highly imaginative use of colour and design, cannot fail to result in a happy and satisfied customer! Hilary Roberts
