Jim Winer designed several renovation projects for our Atlanta home: kitchen renovation, second floor addition, and bathroom renovation. He has the ability to create an exquisite design... regardless of budget constraints and the outcome of each project exceeded our expectations. Living in a space designed by Mr. Winer is a joy every day as you delight in each detail and in the total composition. Every space is eye candy. Working with Jim is also a pleasure as he is professional, funny, gentle, responsive. While he is receptive to our ideas, he always seems to transform them to a higher level. He's marvelous and an exceptionally talented architect who creates art that people can live in.

Jim Winer exceeded our expectations when he designed our Earthcraft Certified, in-town custom home. Overall, he was very easy to work with, kept within budget, and gave us a ‘dream home’ with numerous unique design elements. We would definitely use him in the future if we ever were to build or remodel again. We actually consulted Jim before we put an offer on our tear-down lot to make sure it was suitable for the type of home we wanted to build. While our in-town lot had some peculiarities that presented challenges, Jim was able to work around these to give us everything we wanted in a home, including a garage under the house. Unlike other architects we interviewed, Jim really took the time to think thorough the best way to place a house on our lot to take advantage of views and sunlight, while also maximizing privacy from neighbors. We had a good sense of what we wanted in a house and Jim listened to us and made sure to include everything on our wish list. However, he also challenged us to think beyond our current needs to ensure that our home continued to meet our needs as our family grows. In addition, we wanted an ecofriendly home and Jim purposefully designed our house to have well-proportioned rooms that are not over-sized like seen in many poorly designed houses. Jim also specified energy efficient systems and building materials to ensure we obtained Earthcraft Gold Certification. In terms of design, Jim was able to incorporate many traditional design elements that you see in historic homes but with a more updated, contemporary style that is conducive to modern day living. In terms of interior layout, he gave us functional rooms with practical flow but also thought through more aesthetic elements such as views from within rooms and art placement. He also made sure every major room including bedrooms has some unique design element or feature that adds character without necessarily adding cost. Jim didn’t just hand-over a set of plans, but stayed engaged throughout the build process and provided input on the myriad of little decisions that you typically make with your builder. He definitely has an eye for the details and caught numerous errors by the builder early enough in the process for them to be fixed without significant rework. So in summary, Jim is a pleasure to work with throughout from start to finish and we have recommended him to numerous friends and neighbors.

I've worked with Jim on 3 significant projects. The first was in 1995 - a six-figure total house restoration of our 113 year old home. He did all of the design work and managed the bid/contractor process for us. I was so pleased that I chose to work with him again for my 2001 home expansion - another six-figure project where keeping the new work in sync with the historic features of the home were key. Again, I was so pleased with the work and the relationship that when a tree fell on my home in 2012 and I needed an architect, Jim was my first call. Our residence was one of the first homes Jim Winer designed. My husband and I desired a unique, modern exterior that was reminiscent of southern vernacular structures. We wanted an open, light-filled, refined interior that looked dramatically contemporary, while lending a warm, welcoming feel. We wanted the barriers between the interior and exterior to be blurred. Beginning with his stunning design and continuing throughout the building process, Jim’s work ethic, vision, attention to detail and willingness to consider suggestions never failed to exceed our expectations. In addition, several major "mistakes” caused by our general contractor were discovered and corrected thanks to Jim's attentiveness and oversight. Construction was completed in 1994. Now 20 years later, we still love our dream home!

Jim Winer designed our kitchen many years ago and made is into a showcase and it remains that way 26 years later. He is a very talented architect. We then rehired him 13 years later to remodel the whole house. We moved out of our home to an apartment and Jim took our contemporary home and made it more beautiful by opening spaces and raising windows and glass doors to the ceiling, adding special touches with interesting paint colors, and beautifying our home. We still enjoy living in the remodeled space each and every day. It looks beautiful and works so well. Jim Winer was the architect on the major rennovation of our house over a decade ago. Recently we were redoing a bathroom that was omitted in the previous project. We were attempting to get a more modern look but completely compatible with the previous rennovation. The reconfiguration of the space required some complex construction. Clever use of frosted glass created a larger spacial feel to an otherwise limited space. Attention to elevations and trim details produced a perfect fit with the existing interior design. The result is a beautiful bathroom that no one knows is new. Jim has our unqualified recommendation for any interior design project.

We decided to hire Make 3 architecture to design the renovation of our 1940's Morningside cottage because of their demonstrated ability to creatively update and maximize living space while maintaining the look and feel of the period style of the house. There is no question that we made the right choice in selecting Make3 to guide us through this process. What differentiated Jim Winer and the Make3 team from the other architects we considered was his ability to take our very general conceptual ideas and some photos of things we liked that we saw in other homes to create a vision for what our home COULD be. That's really what we needed in our architect. We know what we like when we see it, but we needed to rely on Jim's expertise and professional eye to create that vision for us. Together with Jens Christensen from Danecraft ( our General Contractor ), Jim and the Make3 team transformed our home into an incredibly beautiful work of art. Our project had many of the complexities that you would expect when renovating a 1940's home. The central idea was to open up the house by taking down the walls between a small living room, dining room and sun room to create one open livable space with plenty of light and circulation - without changing the exterior footprint or altering the exterior profile of the house. There were significant structural issues to deal with, and the inevitable "expected but unexpected" issues that you are bound to encounter once you start taking down the walls. Which is where the confidence and trust factor comes into play. Whatever issues popped up, I knew that I could count on Jim and Jens to find a practical solution that would maintain the aesthetic integrity of the job without blowing up the budget. This is why we hired Jim - to handle these problems and keep the project on point. Storage space is always at a premium in Morningside homes, and Jim is a master of devising clever and appealing designs for maximizing storage opportunities. Between designing hidden storage compartments into a built in sofa or the hidden barware storage closet he built into a pilaster, we're not sure which is the most impressive design. The last thing I want to mention is possibly the most important: attention to detail. Jim has an incredible eye for details, especially when it coms to finish work. Within seconds of entering a room he'd pick out the smallest of imperfections in paint, trim, or finish. The smallest of details didn't escape is eye. His design of the mahogany trim work in the front of our house is simply stunning, and it was expertly crafted and installed by Jens Christiansen of Danecraft. Great process that results in an artistically wonderful product and protects the homeowner. The architect works with the homeowner to design and create an architecturally pleasing product. The plans are drawn up and put out for competitive bid among local and reputable builders who give a fixed price. No surprises!! The architect then monitors the process and makes sure things are being built according to the drawings. Any changes must be discussed with and approved by the homeowner. The architect also monitors payment requests from the builder and makes sure the homeowner isn't paying for things that have not yet been done. We have done two major renovations and many minor ones with Jim Winer over the last 25 years. All smooth and beautiful.

I am a remodeling contractor and have done many projects with Jim Winer since the late eighties. Jim has always been highly professional and a pleasure to work with. He has some very innovative and unique design ideas for the residential projects we have worked on together. Jim designed our beautiful home - and we love it! He started with conceptual sketches of exterior and interior, offered many floor plan alternatives, and generally worked with us until we had the best layout for us and our lot ( i.e. if you move this here, you lose that over there). Then he began to create construction drawings and we selected fixtures and finishes. Everyone who comes to our home raves about it! Jim strongly suggested that for this type (price point) of home, we needed to upgrade windows and doors. At first we resisted, because it was more money for us, but in the end he was right and it makes all the difference. We are already softly thinking about our next home, which we might start after our kid is in college. We have our eye on a lot, and there is no question who will design it - Jim. Jim is a great guy and very easy to work with.

Jim and his team did a wonderful job with a major renovation of our 1920's home in Buckhead. While creating very inventive and workable spaces for our needs, Jim designed a beautiful structure that not only continued to fit our historic neighborhood but also enhanced it. Additionally, Jim was very responsive and attentive throughout the project, clearly taking ownership in and pride for the project from beginning to end. He worked well with us, our interior designer, and our contractor. We would recommend him highly.
