We are a design-oriented, full-service architectural practice established in 2006. Our approach is thoughtful, collaborative, inquisitive and reflective of deep beliefs in what constitutes good design. We believe that design affects people's lives in ways that are deeper than aesthetics. We create environments in which life stories unfold. We believe we have a responsibility to create thoroughly good design. And we believe that every good design starts with a clear understanding of function and use, consideration of the surrounding context and and a deep appreciation of client direction. We believe in embracing complexity. Many factors affect design - the client’s needs, tastes and budget, the existing context, both historic and physical, the talents of each member of the design team, the need to be as judicious as possible with our natural resources, as well as technical considerations such as building systems and code constraints. We believe that it is the architect’s task to dig deep and extract the essence of these influences and then synthesize these factors into a functionally and aesthetically coherent work of architecture. We believe philosophically that all aspects of any project need to be synthesized by the architect into a coherent whole. Therefore we offer our clients not only our technical expertise, which includes planning, code compliance, municipal filings, coordination of building systems, observation of construction, etc, but also our design expertise, which includes developing the aesthetic and spatial and tactile qualities of the building.

This was our second project with nC2 and both turned out quite well. As with our last one, we had a unique, non-traditional vision in mind, and nC2 was able to find a way to make it happen while still being completely legal with the DOB. Highly recommend

While we already had a vision for what we wanted our renovation to look for, we hired nC2 to make sure we had everything we needed to make it legal with the city. This meant, they had to come over, take precise measurements, draw up plans to our specs, prepare all documents and permits, work with the expeditor to ensure things were done smoothly, and more. We hit several snafus and delay dealing with the bureaucracy/incompetence at the DOB, and nC2's Richard, along with their go-to expeditor Lloyd, worked hard to get us through the weeds. My only criticism is that we felt as though we were on the back burner sometimes with the firm, as we had a very small project amongst their other, much larger ones. But, all's well that ends well, and we really appreciate the work nC2 did, priced within our budget too.

The project was a restoration of an Historic Brownstone.The design and execution are in keeping with the architectural details of the building, both inside and out. nC2's staff was knowledgeable and helpful from our first meeting through the final signoff.

Perfect Renovation

We've known Richard and the team at nC2 for several years now. We have joined forces on a number of projects with various scopes; The largest one to date was a gut renovation of a historic landmark- 5 story brownstone in Crown Heights. The team at nC2 are creative, talented and detailed architects. They are a pleasure to work with! We highly recommend them as their level of professionalism exceeds expectation.

In three words, smart, imaginative, knowledgeable. The plans developed made such brilliant use of the space and allowed for city planning. Rich and his team had the experience needed in remodelling brownstones that we really needed.

My wife and I own a three family building in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn and were in need of more space. We decided to stay put in our house and create a duplex with the first and second floors. We kept the third floor as a rental unit. After meeting with several architects, we decided to go with NC2 because we felt they just understood what what we were trying to do. Richard and Michael helped us create an amazing home. They were not only easy to work with but incredibly professional. They also had great ideas that we didn't think of which made the project better than we had imagined. Everyone who walks into our house for the first time is blown away. If I had another project I wouldn't hesitate to call them again.

Richard and Michael took over the design of our project and corrected the mistakes of our previous architect with patience and professionalism. I don't know where our project would be without them and I highly recommend their team and expertise. If anyone wants a job done right the first time, they should look these guys up.

Richard and everyone at nC2 architecture is creative, professional and thoughtful. Their initial study was a determining factor in us moving forward with the purchase and combination of two units in our Brooklyn condo; their time and budget estimates were very accurate as well as their knowledge on logistics of the combination itself. They were very helpful in helping us come up with ideas to maximize the use of the space. Their taste is impeccable and their attention to detail greatly appreciated. We would not hesitate to work with them in the future!

My wife and I came to Richard with the hope that he could help us construct a loft in our apartment. From the initial designs it was clear that Richard was a special talent who understood our aesthetic and possessed the ability to translate it beautifully. His solution was both elegant and functional in a way that felt seamlessly integrated into the space. We could not be more pleased with the outcome. We own a 1890's three family carriage house that Richard helped convert in to a two floor home for us. Richard designed our renovation and worked closely with the all parties involved. He also collaborated with our contractor throughout entire process. This is why we would highly recommend Richard and his firm: - He is a problem solver - When we were held up from DOB Richard worked closely to resolve issues. - He provided great design ideas. Although I had some strong ideas he helped make them come to life. He also patiently convinced me to change my vision on a few items and looking back, he was exactly right. - He stayed within our budget. Making recs on where we could save and where we should spend the extra for quality. We made several changes to our plans and only once did he charge us extra for all the changes. He also made sure our contractor stayed within budget. - He was fully available to us coming by for inspections and weekly mtgs/reviews. We always felt in good hands. - enjoyable to work with.
