Detailed time schedules are made to describe the project milestones so the process can be planned and controlled. With over twenty years of experience, our design team works within a system that ensures that clients’ goals are achieved, control over budget is maintained and the project moves forward in a logical, consistent manner. The design, permit, bid and construction process may seem dizzying—our goal is to create a manageable process with gratifying end results. Our knowledge of colors, materials, plumbing fixtures, hardware, doors and windows, appliances, lighting fixtures, give owners total control over the end result. Working with the ODS team of Alan, Philip, Dmitry, Carina and Toune made a potentially overwhelming process smooth and manageable - which led to a once in a lifetime, fantastic result. We love the home they designed. After helping with contractor selection, they provided high quality of service, thoughtful architectural and interior design advice, and a very high quality of build home. We did a whole house renovation, using both ODS’s architectural and interior design teams. Our house needed a lot of help on the inside and outside. The process started with giving the architects a “wish list” of what we were looking for, and with that they gave us two plans to look at. It was eye-opening to see the conceptual drawings. From there we selected a base plan that evolved as part of the design and build process. Working within our budget, ODS “value engineered” a design that gave us the look and feel we wanted while bringing down the building cost. As a result of collaborative work among ODS, our GC and us, in the end the final design and product was even better than the original concept design that we started with. What could have been better? Not much. Designing in built-in window treatments and working with ODS earlier in the process was probably one aspect that might have worked more smoothly if we went back and did it again. As an overall matter, we would not hesitate to recommend the ODS team. We absolutely love our house and nearly one year later, still remark almost daily on some aspect or design that reminds us of what a great house they were able to build.

We employed Ohashi Design Studio to reimagine our entire space. They designed a beautiful, modern home in our mid-century modern neighborhood. It was important to us to keep the single-story design. Alan, Philip and the rest of the team were responsive, professional and most of all, patient, as we went through the process of making all of the decisions necessary in a new build. They provided expert advice while allowing us to take ownership of some of the material choices. Our twins were two when we started the process, and they were always welcoming and accommodating to our boys during office visits. We always remember Alan's parting words to us, just as we gave him the verbal commitment..."You will be blown away." And we are. We are living in our dream home, and feel fortunate to have worked with ODS.

We worked with ODS Architecture for our whole house remodel. We love the final result! The house is now modern, energy efficient and a perfect fit for our family. Alan, Philip and Dmitry were very professional and easy to work with. I would recommend them highly! By no means was the process easy. I don't think remodel can ever be easy. Our initial wish list resulted in a design that was way over our budget. However, after going through the initial design process, Dmitry and Philip helped us find alternative designs to bring the scope of work to a more manageable budget. They were very patient throughout the whole process. They worked at our pace, and communication was excellent throughout. I always felt they had our best interests in mind.

A complex project where we started out over budget after following the wish list from the owners, worked with them to whittle the scope of work down to meet their cost expectations. As a result it took longer than usual in the design and pricing phase but the end result was worth it. Everyone is very happy and the home looks great.

RSR DEVELOPMENT DESIGN/BUILD

We worked with ODS on multiple projects; marquee residential remodeling in Orinda and Lafayette, California. The team is very detail oriented and extremely professional. It was great working in the field with ODS' guidance and input, making sure that the quality of work was finished as per details. They are a fantastic Group that is able to consolidate both Architecture and Interior Design into the project. They are helpful, considerate and Alan, Philip and Christopher are an absolute pleasure to work with. We look forward to working on future projects together.

RSR Development were great partners in the construction of an unusual project, to build a second residence on an adjoining property, connected by a suspended bridge that was both dining room and hallway. This involved the construction of a new home and the renovation of an existing home at the same time. RSR already had the owner's trust from earlier projects, and what could have been a difficult project was made easy because of RSR's work.

They stuck with their desire to make a home theirs in style through two houses, the first of which could not be added on to easily; the second was just right and we just finished an extensive remodel with dream kitchen and they're finishing up the landscaping and new pool. We worked with ODS Architecture for our complete house remodel. We wanted to build a modern house and ODS' prior work was an excellent fit. In particular, we worked with Philip Liang who was the Design Principal and Atara Kelman who focussed on Interior Design, from ODS Architecture We were quite pleased with Philip and Atara's work. Philip helped come up with innovative and creative solutions to several problems and constraints that we had in the course of the project. Further he worked very hard to deliver collateral for various deadlines that arose during the project. Despite that he was very pleasant and engaging to work with. This depth of experience shows through in their approach, seriousness and attention to detail. Great project and clients! We started work on their already very nice home with a list of issues they wanted fixed and in the end came up with a great room concept opening to large bi-fold glass doors to views of the golf course beyond. Our preferred builder contractor list eventually pointed us to one company that seemed ideally suited to their project that they hired to successfully complete their remodel project.

Specstones Studio has become one of our go-to resources for stone, porcelain tile and deck pavers, their customer service has been great both in terms of bringing samples and new materials to our office and in the field working with us to supply materials for installations. They have really nice colors and materials and we are constantly learning about what is new, hot and innovative and on top of this, their products are very affordable.

We worked with Ohashi Design on the complete redo/remodel of an Eichler home in the bar area. The firm was an integral part of the construction process from the planning to the final touches. Not only was the design progressive but the whole team was easy to communicate with and work with. Ohashi always helped us put the clients needs first, helped with solutions in the construction process, and kept us in the loop throughout the design process during construction. J.T. Masters Construction were the builders of an Eichler remodel and addition in Mountain View. They did an excellent job and were very communicative and responsive during the entire process of bids, pricing, helping with building permits and of course, construction. They provided realistic pricing, good craftsmanship and attention to detail. We would definitely consider J.T. Masters for future projects.

We retained Ohashi Design Studio (ODS) to design our new Atherton home. Our project was shown as "Sutherland" on their website. (ODS removed our project from their website after this unfavorable review was posted). Sadly, our relationship with ODS did not end on a happy note. Initially, we had a productive relationship and were pleased with the general design of the house. However, as we got into the building details we began to encounter problems of some significance. We fully understand that designing and building a custom home is not a seamless process, and there will always be a few bumps in the road, but we did expect more from ODS when it came to ownership of design flaws that ended up costing us money, time and stress. What added insult to injury is when we got a bill for the time they spent debating with us about a design flaw they created or an aesthetic decision they wanted to revisit and counter after we made it clear that we did not agree with it. Overall, we were disappointed with our experience with ODS.

Alan Ohashi and his team did a wonderful job of coming up with a design for my remodel that was better than I had imagined it might be. They set up bids from multiple general contractors and I chose Mike Swift who was very professional and friendly, always on time, and did an excellent execution of the project. Ohashi Design Studio coordinated the project from beginning to end, keeping in contact with Mike and myself, and provided really helpful suggestions as work progressed for issues that my house had beyond the remodel specifications that needed to be addressed. I am very satisfied with them and with the work done and am enjoying my home.

We thoroughly enjoyed working on this project, though small, it required a lot of attention to the details to complete because we were keeping so much of the existing home, cabinetry, etc. The owner and contractor were totally on the same page together.

I was privileged to work with Alan and Kelly to build a home in Boulder, Colorado. I was initially thinking it was going to be a tricky process with a 'long distance' relationship with the architect. I was wrong. It could not have gone smoother and the end result is an AMAZING home! We all shared a vision of what a contemporary home in Colorado could be, including the builder, and this led us smoothly through the process. Credit the owners with being team players letting everyone do what they're best at and supporting them along the way. We learned a lot about the differences between Colorado and California and received as much as we gave in the end.

His team (including our contractors, Live Oak, recommended by ODS) are meticulous and hard-working, helping us design and build a house that is practical and functional with an inviting modern aesthetic. Alan and his team did a great job managing the client’s design expectations while bringing together complicated modern elements in an historic Spanish mission style home. Ohashi Design Studio is a pleasure to work with. Their plans are thorough, precise, and exceptionally well designed. In the few instances where unseen conditions created a challenge, Ohashi was there to give us an answer as quickly and efficiently as possible. They were incredibly responsive both to us, and their clients. They have a good sense of budget considerations, and have a clear understanding of what it takes to get a project built. We thoroughly enjoyed building to their plans, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

A residential design for an exceptional modern home by Ohashi Design Studio is presently under construction by my firm. I have found Alan Ohashi and his lead architect, Philip, to be great to work with. Their design and plan organization of the project is as good as I have seen in the business. I was amazed at their planning presentation. When Ohashi Design Studio presented the plans at a public hearing, the design flew through what is normally a daunting process with unanimous council approval. I have never seen that before. A company of high all around integrity with no holes in their process and plenty of experience. Bids and estimates are lengthy, thorough, detailed and full of information and options. Time estimates for construction duration are tight and predicated on good coordination of trades and subs to make them work. To this end James has a crew of experienced people all of whom have taken to heart his way of working. Clients feel things are well managed under his supervision.

We hired Ohashi Design Studio for an extensive renovation of our home. This included the kitchen, family room, bathrooms, bedrooms, etc. They came up with creative solutions and were responsive to our needs, creating spaces that are both functional and beautiful. As general contractors, we have been working with the team at Ohashi Design Studio on two large projects. These are high end, new custom homes in Atherton. The Ohashi team is very dedicated and responsive. Aside from their beautiful design, their attention to detail is impressive and the quality of their plans is extraordinary. One of the projects is on a hillside. They came up with a creative grading plan which significantly improved the usability of the site. The Ohashi team is very involved in all phases of construction. They have been guiding the homeowners with the selections of finish materials such as lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, tile, stone, slabs, hardwood floor, colors and others. Both projects are uniquely beautiful, with all the different selections coming together as a whole.

I as an artist have worked with Joy Ohashi on two different projects. Joy is very easy to work with. There are only creative solutions with Joy, never problems. She has a simple subtle, style that I like a lot. There is no "extra" in her designs only what is needed to complete the design. The staff at Ohashi Design Studio helped me design my kitchen/living space. I wanted to open up our galley kitchen to be able to see our incredible view from the kitchen. They came up with a design I never imagined could work so well. Rather than just remove a wall, they moved the kitchen, changed it to a more functional shape and not only opened up the view, but made the living space feel like we were outside. I have been especially impressed with their level of service. They listened to my dreams and goals and turned it into a reality beyond what I'd hoped for. They were available anytime I needed guidance during construction and made sure the project was built down to the finest details. They helped me find a contractor and oversaw the bidding process. They helped pick out all the materials and finishes, even the paint color. I can't say enough about their level of expertise and professionalism. I worked with Dave and Alan.
