I have built eight houses in several states so at this point I know something about custom homes and builders. Moving back to Virginia, I decided to build again. I wanted a custom house, built solidly, low maintenance, and with a custom design. I spent six months researching local builders in the area. I chose Cumberland Custom Homes. Other builders in the area had a different understanding of what custom meant. Custom to them was picking from 4 options, using cookie cutter designs, etc. Cumberland Custom Homes understood and listened to what I wanted. They helped me design my perfect home, giving me all the options that I requested along with being very economical. They were very cost conscious and worked to make my dream house possible. This is the best house that I have built. I get many compliments on the design and how well it was built. I can't say enough about Cumberland Homes. Last year they completed our 5 bedroom 3 1/2 bath home and it is stunning. The craftsmanship and professionalism of Ray and his crew was top notch. Our project was complicated as we had an original structure that had to be maintained while adding on over 2000 square feet. Ray was patient, budget conscious and honest every step of the way. I built a summer home 5 years ago and now building another home....so I understand a bit of the process and have a comparison. Altho I liked my other builder, Ray is amazing! He is very creative and enjoys the process of dreaming right along with you. He also brings to the table a tremendous range of experience and knowledge in all facets of the building process as well as years of connections in the field. He "looks out for you" and is economical in the process. Example: We cut down trees on our site and Ray noted there were some mature cherry trees......he suggested we have the large cherry trees taken to a local mill and used for the rough beams we want to use in the house!......adding character with local wood from the property and saving $. Ray's character is sterling! He has several clients who are repeat.....this speaks volumes. The Quality of the standard of his workmanship within his company adds to the term custom built! Excellence is their standard. Cumberland Homes is an excellent choice for the first time as well as seasoned client wanting to build a home. We are blessed to have Ray building ours.
