Square Design is a Sydney-based boutique design studio specialising in bespoke residential projects. Established in 2009 by its Founder, Principal Designer Dan Clift, Square Design offers an approach which is underpinned by pure design principles and an understanding of space, function, context, and sustainability. Dan graduated with a Bachelor of Interior Architecture (Honours) in 2004 from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and since then, Dan has built a reputation within the design community for his creativity, professionalism, and passion for quality design. Dan brings 18+ years of design experience to every project. Based in Woollahra, within the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Square Design has extensive experience across the eastern suburbs, inner west and the north shore suburbs of Sydney. Over the years, Square Design has designed many projects spanning across the east coast of NSW. Square Design work collaboratively with a team of building consultant professionals to deliver truly inspired houses that respond creatively to the project brief.

Dan and the team at Square Design did an amazing job designing our new house. We worked with Dan for a 3 year period in which he designed interiors and exteriors for our 330 sq meter, three level home. Dan’s attention to detail and well honed taste combined to create an amazing architectural masterpiece. Every day we get to interact with the spaces, functionality and experiences within the home we think of Dan and whisper thank you to him for his dedication to our project. We can’t recommend Square Design highly enough.

We engaged Square Design to design our new property located in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney. Dan was overall responsible for these works and without doubt he and his team did an excellent job in delivering on the design brief we gave him. Square Design demonstrated outstanding creativity in the way they were able to approach the design and they clearly gave much considered thought to the different spaces within the design. It was important for us to have a home which was filled with character and interest, and Square Design were able to deliver this for us particularly through the inclusion of materials such as stone, timber, and concrete. For us, getting the detail right was of high importance, and thankfully Dan was very good at ensuring the detail was spot on. Dan was clearly passionate about the finest of details. It was obvious that Dan and his team brought a wealth of design experience and knowledge to our project as we worked together throughout the design process & project with open communication whereby they listened to our needs and took on board all our concerns as they worked through the best design options in order to resolve them. I found Square Design a pleasure to work with and would not hesitate to recommend their design services.

We worked with Square Design on a complete renovation of a hundred year old apartment in North Bondi. It was practically unliveable when we bought it and there wasn't a lot of space to work with, but Dan transformed this into such an amazing space - respecting the building's heritage while creating a modern, bright and stylish feel. Dan was absolute pleasure to work with throughout and I have no hesitation in recommending his work.

We used Square Design to produce a design, plans & DA for the renovation of our small inner west workers cottage. There was tight budget constraints, space limitations and numerous council restrictions. They listened to our needs and gave us a design that maximised the space and provided an open airy living environment that we requested. They were professional, responsive and open to ideas. They delivered on time and to our general specifications. They were also very open and transparent about their fees and potential construction costs involved in the design. Luckily for us they visited the construction site on a number of occasions and picked up on a design misinteruption by the builders. It was resolved, fixed and everybody was happy. Thanks Square Design!

The Team at Square Design did a complete renovation of our kitchen. They converted our shabby, tired & impractical kitchen into a stylish galley kitchen which is not only practical but has become the hub of our daily gatherings. Square Design completed the job on time & on budget. We love the design ideas & appreciated the professional management.

Square Design is innovative and modern with their projects. As we have worked with them on numerous projects, we found Square Design to be open with their communication (both with us and their client), take on board our recommendations and trust our trade expertise. Not only do Square Design see the project through but they have the same amount of enthusiasm at the end of the project as they do at the beginning. We strongly Square Design. They are someone who will take ownership of the project with a keen eye to detail.

Before purchasing a semi which was in need of a total renovation to make it liveable, I asked Square Design for their advice. I was amazed by their quick and professional advice, assuring me that the property could be converted into an open space, with new kitchen, bathroom & laundry. Skylights were installed to give me natural light to what was a very dark & uninviting space. All bamboo floor was installed throughout. I can not be happier with the transformation, which came in well within my budget. I would be very happy to recommend Square Design .

After major issues with a previous designer and my local council I had a meeting with Square Design to see what they could do to assist. After being told that they could handle the whole issue for a reasonable price which would guarantee DA approval from council I engaged them to complete my project. I was extremely impressed at not only their amazing designs and ideas for my project (especially given my limited budget), but also their efficiency, communication and professionalism throughout. In a project that saw me have issues with council, builders, engineers and my certifier Square Design was a pleasure to deal with and really reminded me that some parts of the construction industry can be professional and give amazing customer service. I am extremely happy with the final outcome that is now our family home. The design met our brief and budget with a few bonus options that add further value to the property.
