Our experience working with Cutting Edge has been nothing short of a total nightmare. What was estimated by CEH to be a 5-6 month project is approaching the two year mark with poor quality control, poor time and project management, not paying sub contractors on a timely basis so they won't come to the house, rotating subcontractors, many employees quit throughout the process so no continuity, lots of excuses and promises. Sean is a gifted salesman but cannot deliver on his promises. Now he will not respond to repeated emails and phone calls to finish the punch list. Do your diligence as this has been a brutal experience and I do not recommend.

In my opinion, these guys are flat out incompetent. Original budget was $400-450K, got blown up with their projected cost of up to $1,000,000. Shocking compared to other proposals we received. Got rid of them early on which saved our project. Were able to find a competent builder that came in much closer to our budget. Unfortunately still too much so we reduced scope, if we had only known this sooner likely would have saved time/energy. Luckily we began the process well in advance of our start date that we are still on track for Q1 ‘23 and now have plans in place we fell comfortable with. The owner has also continued to make unwanted contact after we severed the relationship, pressuring to change our review. What a mistake getting involved with these guys, avoid the headache!

We signed a contract with Sean Cutting and Cutting Edge Homes back in 2018 and it was a very costly mistake. Sean is a smooth talker and a salesman. Also note, he is the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the local Better Business Bureau. The design process was absolutely terrible. The first set of designs presented where not even within the setbacks of our lot. After a number of versions the final proposed design was only average. But what ultimately ended the relationship was the proposed working budget. It was astronomical for the project. I know this because we went to market with the plans. We were very fortunate to get out when we did and cut our loses. I can only say this now that we have successfully completed our addition with an honest, trustworthy architect and contractor. Our outcome is a better design, more square footage, top-quality craftsmanship, all at a lower price than Cutting Edge. I was hesitant to post this review, hence the delay. I decided it was important to do so in hopes that I can prevent this from happening to other families.

Disaster. $600k home remodel and Sean skipped out on us near the end with an incomplete job. Electric, heat, AC, cabinets, etc. not done. Contractors he hired would not complete the work because he didn't pay them for what they had already done. It was and is a mess. Do not hire them!!!!!!

We were looking for a contractor to not only help us execute a renovation (kitchen, floors, layout) but to really help us figure out how to most effectively design and update our new home while maintaining the existing charm. While the job was a big one, Cutting Edge made it all manageable and was a true partner every step of the way. They have a fantastic team that came up with breakthrough ideas to improve our house and execute the in a truly responsive and hands on manner to get things done well. They are very detail oriented, responsive and execute excellent work. I would highly recommend Cutting Edge Homes to anyone looking for a design/build contractor.

We recently completed a major renovation/transformation of our home. CuttingEdge was in charge of the whole project, from planning and designing to completion. We found them to be excellent - easy to deal with, creative, professional staff and sub-contractors, top quality workmanship and attention to detail, and they finished our huge project on time despite a never ending scope creep!

CEH conducted an extensive house renovation for us in 2015 and we couldn't be happier with the outcome! We started with a 1965 gambrel cape style house that was in need of some work. What began with the idea of tearing down the garage and rebuilding with a new master suite above it turned into a full makeover of the house, resulting in a colonial style home we couldn't be happier with, including full re-landscaping. CEH introduced some innovative thinking about how to architecturally blend the addition into the house that resulted in seamless continuity. The architect had the vision to think of creative ideas, and the construction team made it a reality. Overall, the project was completed on time and generally on budget (we made a few changes as we went which changed the cost). The construction crew was terrific in working through issues, and making sure everything was done at the highest levels of quality...including happily re-doing a couple of things when they weren't to satisfaction (e.g, a major bluestone tile on the front portico was chipped during installation, which we didn't notice until after everything was set including the support column that rested on the tile...the team quickly decided to remove everything and put in a new bluestone tile to make it right, which was quite an ordeal). For us, a combined design/build firm made sense due to our busy lifestyle. CEH's project management was great, as we would consistently speak with the project manager and/or the CEH general contractor in charge of the project. We'd certainly recommend CEH to others (and have, as they're currently working on a couple of projects for friends of ours).

Sean and company are a joy to work with. Their jobs can vary from small bath remodels with median priced updates to extreme home makeovers where budgets don't exist. They treat all their clients with the utmost respect. The detail and thought they put in shows in their finished work. We love working with them and their clients. As an interior Designer for over ten years, I have worked with many homebuilders in the Boston area and throughout the country. Cutting Edge homes gives exemplary customer service and excellent quality work. Sean Cutting and his professional, skilled team are respectful, reliable and loyal. If you are looking to have a home built or remodel an existing be sure to give them a call!

Wasted 4 months and $10K with this firm. Cutting Edge toured our house, gave us a verbal estimate for the project. After numerous designs, their proposed construction budget was $230K over their original estimate and our budget. The closest they could get was $100K over target.

I met with Sean to review my residential project. He visited my home and we spent approx 1 hour reviewing my needs and discussing budget. As a next step he said two individuals would visit my home that week to measure so he could draft an initial proposal. After those two men never came, I texted Sean to confirm if they were going to stop by. Sean texted back, "Trying to free up some time. We had very heavy rains here and had some emergency calls. Trying to sort through it now.". Sounded fine...but never heard back. I texted again a week later and no response. I don't know about all of you but I appreciate someone who at least responds and doesn't leave you hanging. If you're busy, don't feel the budget is sufficient or just plain don't want the work, at least communicate. I would highly advise not using a firm that shows this level of disrespect for a serious homeowner.

My wife and I found Cutting Edge when we were looking for a contractor to do a kitchen remodel for us. We initially liked them because they were able to provide us with 3D drawings of the renovation so I could "see" it as blueprint-type drawings do not do anything for me! During our first in-home visit with Sean, we could tell that this was a very professional company that we could trust. Sean laid out the entire process for us and how the renovation would go - from first design meeting to final inspections. Our biggest concern after the first meeting was that our project seemed a little to "small" for them as some of the work they do is very impressive, including building entire homes. It turns out our concern was nothing to worry about because never once did we feel that our project was not important to them. The design phase was extremely helpful for my wife and I. We had an idea as to what we wanted, but did not really know until we started working with the team at Cutting Edge. The team (and by team I mean 4-5 people!) came in and took all the measurements and interviewed us to get to understand us and what it was we wanted. We quickly realized that what we wanted was an entire 1st floor renovation and not just a kitchen renovation (new kitchen, hardwood floors throughout 1st floor, mudroom addition, portico over front door, etc.). After a few weeks of design, we had our first meeting to review the design by the team. Seeing the 3D models was very helpful for us. We were able to make changes and tweaks over several weeks and approx. 5-6 meetings. Never once during the phase did we feel rushed to make decisions, they wanted to make sure that we got what we wanted and would meet with us as many times as we needed to get there. Once we completed the design and had the budget, we were ready to start. Cutting Edge provided us with a Project Manager who spent the entire project with us and was seemingly available 24-7 for any questions we had - which were many! They provided us with a schedule and weekly updates as to what was completed, what was scheduled for next week and any change orders that were approved and added to - or subtracted from - the budget. This was extremely helpful for us to know what was going on and when things were happening. The work was very well done. From major carpentry items to finishing touches, we never got the sense that the work was sub-standard quality. They really seem to care about the job and the final outcome. For example, we added a mudroom to the house and there is a window in it. Until the room was built, we did not realize that the drawings had the window centered in the entire room but should have been located in a different spot (there is a closet in the back, so the window should have been shifted more towards the door). The project manager decided that it was not right and made the decision to re-do the window, which meant taking down siding and re-doing some of the framing. In the end, he said it was not right and they wanted to make it right and did not pass the cost on to us. The team is still working with us as we find any touch ups that we would like (they have already been back several times since completion to fix some things you do not notice until you are living in the space). We do not feel like they have abandoned us after completion - all we have to do is call them and they will do what they can for us. There is still some outdoor work to complete (some painting and landscaping), but the weather will require us to wait until the spring, and in no way are we worried that they will not finish the job! We have heard of contractor horror stories from others, and we can say in all honesty that is not the case with Cutting Edge. Cutting Edge is not the cheapest, but they truly embody the term "get what you pay for". From start to finish, they are with you and take your project seriously, no matter the size. You never feel that they are cutting corners in the process and you can feel safe knowing that they will work with you to completion and beyond. We are so happy with our renovation, we have already talked to them about additional work that they can do for us.
