“From our initial meeting, John was a positive force in our renovation project, to a house largely untouched for 20 years. Without leaning on his years of experience and contacts, we would still be floundering. - His suggestion of a reasonable change to our original plans provided more space and light. He also suggested options to other parts of the renovation that proved helpful in the final design. - His close management of the tendering process, with four prospective companies bidding, ensured clarity on the exact works to be undertaken and assurance the builder chosen was best value, of suitable quality and focussed on client service. - John suggested product suppliers appropriate to our budget/quality requirements, enabling a narrowing of seemingly myriad options. - His Management of, and involvement with, the construction phase, both dealing with subjects of which we had no knowledge, to liaison with the building team via regular site visits, ensured a (customer requested) challenging timetable was largely met - Always prompt responses, practical advice and the ability to calm fevered thoughts, using his knowledge and years of experience. We had always believed a project manager was desirable, but in retrospect it was essential, even for our size of project. For a layman, there are so many unknown unknowns, strands to pull together and coordinate, things where a little knowledge or the internet may prove to be a time - and money - wasting hindrance if flying solo. John’s contributions greatly enhanced the final outcome and eased the stress levels associated with the project. We would strongly recommend him if you are considering any building project and want an independent, client focussed partner.”

“We worked with Chris on our extension and loft project, and throughout the process he was incredibly professional, responsive and supportive. Unfortunately, we encountered significant issues with our construction company, which caused delays and complications that were completely outside of Chris's control. Despite this, Chris consistently went above and beyond to help us navigate the situation, providing advice, answering questions promptly, and doing everything he could to keep the project moving forward. His communication was excellent from start to finish, and his patience and willingness to assist during a particularly stressful period were greatly appreciated. The drawings and planning work were completed to a high standard, and he always took the time to explain options and address any concerns we had. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Chris to anyone looking for an architect who is knowledgeable, reliable, and genuinely invested in helping their clients achieve the best possible outcome.”

“We highly recommend Shear Architectural Design who made the whole design and planning process stress-free. Darryl is highly knowledgeable and guided us on how what would be achievable, giving us the confidence to submit a plan for our dream build - which passed planning on its first go! Debbie has been a dream, keeping us informed, liaising with structural engineer, planning and building control for a seamless experience. They have built up relationships with experienced local trades, guaranteeing good communication and ways of working, so our impression was similar to working with an all-in-one design and spec team. They put their customer first, ensuring we understood what would happen, when and why. Their online tender package made it simple to contact builders will all the necessary information organised in folders, in a single download link. Brilliant! From start to finish they have responded quickly, kindly and demystified what we feared would be a challenging project. You will be in very good hands with Shear. We are now finalising our builder selection and can't wait to see our project built! Darryl has translated our need for natural light, clear movement between spaces and tweaked designs to give our family the in-built storage we need.”
