“Cheers to Growing Younger in the Loop! Danielle and her team went ABOVE and BEYOND to help us decorate our new condo. We had just retired, sold our suburban home and were moving into a downtown condo in the North Loop of Minneapolis. We didn't know how to use the condo space effectively and much of our furniture was too over-sized. In addition, we wanted a great entertaining space for my husband's wine blog and our family & friends. Danielle listened to our needs and created an incredible design that made me feel right at home from the first moment. Danielle redesigned our living room, dining room, bedroom and master bath. She also created a cozy sitting area, one of my favorite new spots. The products from Vivid are outstanding, so chic, top quality and comfortable. I love each piece, including a sofa, chairs, coffee tables, a dining room table & chairs, lighting, a beautiful cool mirror and new bedding & linens. Danielle had said that with this design I would 'grow younger', and it turned out to be true! I do feel younger in this space and our condo reflects our goals and active downtown lives. On top of great products and design, Vivid's service was out of this world. The products arrived in short order and Danielle quickly pulled in resources to set up the furniture and design. Extra services included painting a wine rack, hanging a heavy mirror, re-sizing a rug, removing furniture for donation and cleaning. To top it off, Danielle, Ethan and the Vivid team personally oversaw the installation while we were traveling. They had amazing ideas for our bookcases, wall art, new & old accessories and the placement of the furniture. WHAT FUN it was to come home to a re-designed new condo that I just love and that reflects our lives so well! “Two years ago, my husband and I bought a lakefront lot in the Seattle area. Recently married, and having never lived in anything bigger than our small condo in San Francisco, we were suddenly faced with the formidable (but fun!) challenge of designing our "dream home" that will transition with us through our future life stages. We had not planned on building a house and were at a loss as to where to start, so I took to Houzz to begin finding design inspiration. After months of continually adding photos from Martha O'Hara Interiors to my Ideabooks (and several frustrating interviews with local designers) I decided to send an e-mail inquiry to them to see if they might be willing to work with us despite the distance - I figured it was worth a shot. Not only was it "worth a shot", but it was one of the best decisions I have made during this house-building process! I was instantly connected with Jayme Meyer, and after chatting with her about what I liked and disliked, I felt like I finally found a designer who understood me - someone who got my personality and could take it and turn it into home decor, and someone who could assist throughout the entire process. Our architects vetted Jayme as well, came away impressed, and we signed on with MOI. I'll go ahead and say it right now: I was not certain about working with a designer remotely; despite being fairly tech-savvy, I just wasn't sure this would work well - even after doing a few reference calls with other out-of-state clients. Let me also say this - there was absolutely NO need to worry! Working with them halfway across the country has been one of the easiest things; they're so responsive on e-mail, they put together great presentations, and once we settle on a design style, they're quick to send samples of everything - fabrics, wallpapers, paint colors, even rug mock-ups - so that you can see, in real life, what you're selecting. I have a binder that is bulging at the seams full of swatches and I often sit and go through it and just smile - do not let distance deter you from reaching out! Having addressed the distance issue, I want to talk about each step in the design process and how Jayme has made that step a fun and easy experience. Jayme's first order of business was to review our floor plans - she looked over every room in the house, and talked to me about how my husband and I envision using them. We talked in specifics - such as discussing how many people I want to fit around my dining room table - and we talked in vague generalities, discussing how future children might grow up in the house and how it would transition through all the various stages. With that knowledge, Jayme was able to craft detailed furniture plans, showing me exactly what I could (and couldn't) accomplish in our space, and she provided many wonderful suggestions about how to tweak the plans before we got too far along. There's so much I never would have thought about (for example, did we leave enough space on the wall to fit drapes?), but Jayme didn't miss a thing! The next stage of the project had Jayme working on selecting tile and countertops for our house. Again, Jayme was a lifesaver - I would still be wandering tile shops aimlessly, trying to figure out what goes together, if I was tackling this on my own. Thankfully, Jayme just gets me and she hit the nail on the head with her selections. She was happy to shop for affordable pieces (we came in under budget - this was a consistent theme with MOI!), and she put things together perfectly. Beyond just having it look good, she thought about functionality as well - making sure we used small tiles for the shower floors so that the grouting would provide traction, suggesting honed finishes when appropriate, etc. She flew out to Seattle and shopped tile for a few days, presented it all to me, and we selected tile and countertops for six bathrooms, a slate for the mudroom floor, and kitchen countertops all in under three hour's time - because everything she had selected was pretty much perfect! She was available to consult with on appliances as well (I'd already selected most of the ones I wanted), and was even able to push me outside of my comfort zone on a gorgeous, blue La Cornue stove that is going to be installed in our kitchen - I knew I wanted the La Cornue but was going to go with the "safe" stainless steel choice, despite loving a deep, rich blue; Jayme told me to go for it and we'd design around it, and I can't wait to see it because I know it will look fabulous! She's good at knowing when and where I should take risks, and she recognizes that I WANT color, I just don't know how to incorporate it! Jayme also did lighting selections for our entire house, choosing sconces, chandeliers, and outdoor lighting. Lighting is challenging; you can't always visualize a fixture in a room, since none of the furniture has been selected yet. That being said, I tried my best to articulate to Jayme what I liked and didn't like about various lighting fixtures, and after one or two small corrections we settled on lighting that I love. This was the first time I really asked for changes, and it was great to know that Jayme took every bit of feedback really well, never being offended to too invested in her ideas - she knows she is designing a house for her clients and just wants to see them happy with every detail. The final, and most FUN stage of this project, was furnishing the house! My husband and I flew out to Minneapolis to meet with Jayme and her assistants - Krystal Kellerman and Christa Gibbs - and we spent two full days going over all the items they had selected for the house. As in every other stage, Jayme really got my style and we didn't have to make too many large changes. When we did make changes - and when my husband made (mostly) joking comments - Jayme, Krystal, and Christa were super accommodating and always smiling, laughing, and having fun with us, never taking anything personally. We furnished our living room, formal dining room, entry, master bedroom and bathroom, guest bedroom and bathroom, breakfast nook, mudroom, and three outdoor areas in two days. Then, once I got back home to SF, I reached out and had them do a second guest bedroom; my husband - who had previously said he wanted NO help on his office and wasn't even sold on why we needed a designer - asked if we could have Jayme and her team do the office... he was a convert after seeing them in action! It didn't stop there, though. I've asked Jayme and Krystal to help with other projects as well, and no matter the request they've been happy to jump in. They've furnished a media room, created a gallery wall in an upstairs hallway, and happily tackled arranging, matting, and framing a menu collection I wanted to hang in my kitchen. They've helped select artwork, advised on potted plants, and selected hardware for the cabinets and drawers - no task is too large or too small. Perhaps the thing I'm most excited about, though, is that they didn't think I was crazy when I told them I wanted to do a whole set of Christmas-related decor, and so they put together an incredible presentation of Christmas-related fabrics to transform my living room, dining room, and sunroom into a winter wonderland, with seasonal throw pillows, bench covers, and a new set of dining room drapes to make it seem a little more festive! I cannot wait to see it all this December! I know that my husband and I are going to love every piece of furniture that goes into our house, and it's entirely due to Jayme, Krystal, and Christa taking the time to get to know us, and then thoughtfully picking out beautiful furniture that will adapt to our changing lifestyle. Jayme knows that she'll be my first call if we find out our family is expanding (sorry, mom and dad!) so that MOI can help design a nursery and, eventually, kids' rooms to match the rest of our incredible house. I feel so very fortunate to have gotten to know Jayme, Krystal, and Christa over the past two years, have recommended them to a friend (who is also thrilled with their design work so far), and will miss having an excuse to correspond with them once the house is finished. They're professional, fun to work with, and singularly focused on helping to create a living space that their clients will love, and I would tell anyone that they should reach out to MOI for design help. You spend so much time and create so many lifelong memories in your home - there's no reason you shouldn't absolutely love every square foot of your space, and with Jayme and the MOI team, you're guaranteed to do just that. It's some of the best money I've ever spent and I can say with certainty that any design needs I have in the future will be handled by the MOI staff. They're simply the best.”
