I have a Rainbird controller that is more than ten years old and still going strong. I see that they have redesigned them with updated screens and user interface but the basic functions still seem to be the same. You can program it manually or by a wifi module bought separately. They have multiple sizes with different numbers of possible zones.
These are more expensive but the extra money buys a few advantages. First is reliability, Rainbird is an established brand with a great history for making quality products. Second they can be used indoors or outdoors. Many cheaper controllers are not rated for outdoor use and have to be placed in a garage or other shelter. Third, every controller is capable for use with long run times needed for drip systems. Many cheaper controllers have limited station runtimes that aren’t suited for drip systems. Fourth there are many options for scheduling so you can customize according to your needs. Cheaper controllers often have fewer customizing options.

I agree with Kentc, rain bird is the best way to go in my exp. Hunter also has some models that might fit your needs but rain birds modular design allows for simple modification to the system.
Grasping at straws here ... are there any agricultural programs nearby? Maybe someone could teach classes there, maybe get some free assistance from the youngs?
Sorry to hear about the destruction, Melissa, it seems this phenomenon is spreading. We had the pea-sized ones here about a month ago, but fortunately brief and we escaped serious damage, just flattened plants. Larger hail stones, up to golf ball size are an occasional summer event in Girona city and further west towards coast. We tend to get afternoon thunderstorms in this area (not so much this year) and the heat and humidity seem to breed hailstones. They have been known to smash windscreens and outdoor furniture and a particularly ferocious hailstorm a few years ago even killed a child.
OMG, Nollie, I can't "like" your post, because the idea of a kid getting killed by hail is too upsetting. My spring flush was ruined by the early heat, too.
Years ago we had a hailstorm were the stones werelarge enough to dent the roffs of cars. After reading Melissa's post I plan to have a blanket ready in case a storm comes our way, to throw over my car windshield, if possible. But for now, no rain at all is predicted for the next two weeks.
