I LOVE the layout of this ceiling and think it would work as a great inspiration photo for the dormer over the dining room and the dormer over the patio doors. It has just enough beams to be interesting and not too many that it is distracting. The color is not right though.

This reminds me of the dining nook you are creating in my cabin. Again, I like the way there is a substantial molding that separates the ceiling and rafter beams from the walls. It just gives it that finished look that so many paneled walls/ceilings do not have. This again is paneling that looks substantial and structural and less like simply a decorative element. If having a different ceiling color is too fussy, I would consider painting it to be uniform with the walls if it was done and looked as nicely finished as this room does.
