In approaching the update of my Glen Waverley 1970s home, I sought inspiration from its existing features. Living with the original kitchen for a year provided invaluable insight into what worked and what needed improvement. The charm of its dark, cozy ambiance led me to retain some elements in the new design.

Addressing functional issues like a shallow counter and limited storage, I reconfigured the layout, introducing new joinery while preserving the slate flooring and original timber window frames for a seamless blend of past and modern aesthetics.

Drawing from the bold and vibrant 1970s interior design, I embraced a calming sage green color scheme, complemented by teak wood details and beige and grey limestone countertops. These choices harmonize with the natural tones of the slate floors, creating a cohesive and fresh nod to retro influences.

Originally, Japanese finger tiles were intended as a feature, but a cracked stone splashback prompted a creative solution. Now, the tiles grace the entire space, demonstrating that sometimes, a mistake can lead to a better outcome. THE SAGE Kitchen Renovation stands as a testament to thoughtful design and the beauty of embracing unexpected turns.
