Load up on lightWith a small flat, you need to make the most of light. “A tip that most forget is to clean your windows regularly to maximise the amount of light coming into the room,” says Nigel Buckie of Object Architecture. “You might not think this matters, but you’ll be amazed about the difference simply cleaning them makes.” The position of your windows can give you a handy guide to the practical layout of your apartment. “I would always recommend a seating area, dining area or the place where you spend the most time to be close to windows,” suggests Schubert. If there isn’t much natural light available, play with artificial lighting. “Hide LED strips in areas where they’re not visible, such as on top of kitchen cupboards or joinery,” adds Schubert. “This helps to highlight any existing features such as cornices.”
