Wilson Kelsey DesignWKD’s design specialty in quality historic preservation ensured that the integrity of this home’s interior and exterior architecture was kept intact. The design mission was to preserve, restore and renovate the home in a manner that celebrated its heritage, while recognizing and accommodating today’s lifestyle and technology. Drawing from the home’s original details, WKD re-designed a friendly entry (including the exterior landscape approach) and kitchen area, integrating it into the existing hearth room. We also created a new stair to the second floor, eliminating the small, steep winding stair. New colors, wallpaper, furnishings and lighting make for a family friendly, welcoming home.

CBH ArchitectsFoyer in center hall colonial. Wallpaper was removed and a striped paint treatment executed with different sheens of the same color. Wainscoting was added and handrail stained ebony. New geometric runner replaced worn blue carpet.

Priscila Barros - Abode Design CoWe moved the original stairs in the house to make room for a full bathroom upstairs. Then added cement tile to the stairs.
Vandamm InteriorsThis staircase was a plain cream envelope that had no style before the wainscoting and gutsy grey paint. The cream runner shows nicely against the darkness of the paint creating simple drama in an otherwise boring space.

Simply Home DecoratingIn this serene family home we worked in a palette of soft gray/blues and warm walnut wood tones that complimented the clients' collection of original South African artwork. We happily incorporated vintage items passed down from relatives and treasured family photos creating a very personal home where this family can relax and unwind. Aurora Architects + BuildersThe front staircase of this historic Second Empire Victorian home was beautifully detailed but dark and in need of restoration. It gained lots of light and became a focal point when we removed the walls that formerly enclosed the living spaces. Adding a small window brought even more light. We meticulously restored the balusters, newel posts, curved plaster, and trim. It took finesse to integrate the existing stair with newly leveled floor, raised ceiling, and changes to adjoining walls. The copper color accent wall really brings out the elegant line of this staircase.
UserOur goal for this project was to seamlessly integrate the interior with the historic exterior and iconic nature of this Chicago high-rise while making it functional, contemporary, and beautiful. Natural materials in transitional detailing make the space feel warm and fresh while lending a connection to some of the historically preserved spaces lovingly restored.
