Dark stone, custom cherry cabinetry, misty forest wallpaper, and a luxurious soaker tub mix together to create this spectacular primary bathroom. These returning clients came to us with a vision to transform their builder-grade bathroom into a showpiece, inspired in part by the Japanese garden and forest surrounding their home. Our designer, Anna, incorporated several accessibility-friendly features into the bathroom design; a zero-clearance shower entrance, a tiled shower bench, stylish grab bars, and a wide ledge for transitioning into the soaking tub. Our master cabinet maker and finish carpenters collaborated to create the handmade tapered legs of the cherry cabinets, a custom mirror frame, and new wood trim.

Luxurious Zen best decribes this Asian inspired master bath suite. Custom shoji screen panels line the hallway as you enter flanked by his and hers walkin closets. A foating vanity with lift up LED mirror sits center stage, with a generous free standing soking tub on the left, and an oversized custom shower on the right. Walnut wood floors and a cedar clad ceiling give warmth and ground the space.

The intent of this design is to integrate the clients love for Japanese aesthetic, create an open and airy space, and maintain natural elements that evoke a warm inviting environment. A traditional Japanese soaking tub made from Hinoki wood was selected as the focal point of the bathroom. It not only adds visual warmth to the space, but it infuses a cedar aroma into the air. A live-edge wood shelf and custom chiseled wood post are used to frame and define the bathing area. Tile depicting Japanese Shou Sugi Ban (charred wood planks) was chosen as the flooring for the wet areas. A neutral toned tile with fabric texture defines the dry areas in the room. The curb-less shower and floating back lit vanity accentuate the open feel of the space. The organic nature of the handwoven window shade, shoji screen closet doors and antique bathing stool counterbalance the hard surface materials throughout.

This typical tract home bathroom was converted into a soothing home spa, inspired by the beauty of the outdoors. The metaphor of Nature (waterfall, pebbles, natural wood tone) was employed throughout to create the feel of being outside. The undermount lighting in the shower and beneath the vanity cabinet further enhance the spa-like ambience at night.

Interior of the shower that was made larger by borrowing about 18" from the adjacent guest bathroom. Although the tiles are mostly brown earth tones, they're not boring; random inserts of the floor tile and glass mosaic tile add visual interest. The personal shower is conveniently located close to the bench seat, and the valve has a diverter for operating the shower heads.

This little guest bathroom is a favorite amongst our social following with its vertically laid glass subway tile and blush pink walls. The navy and pinks complement each other well and the brass pulls stand out on the free-standing vanity. The gold leaf oval mirror is a show-stopper.

Built on Frank Sinatra’s estate, this custom home was designed to be a fun and relaxing weekend retreat for our clients who live full time in Orange County. As a second home and playing up the mid-century vibe ubiquitous in the desert, we departed from our clients’ more traditional style to create a modern and unique space with the feel of a boutique hotel. Classic mid-century materials were used for the architectural elements and hard surfaces of the home such as walnut flooring and cabinetry, terrazzo stone and straight set brick walls, while the furnishings are a more eclectic take on modern style. We paid homage to “Old Blue Eyes” by hanging a 6’ tall image of his mug shot in the entry.
