Mediterrasian LandscapesThis couple wanted to make their typical San Francisco backyard into something special. The yard had some nice plants but little useable space or attractive ground treatment. They had built a kidney-shaped planter with block walls as a weekend project a few years back, and they wanted to keep this. We came up with a design that used the kidney-shaped planter as a focal point. We added a lot of useable space with a bi-level concentric circular patio. By constructing the patio on two levels, we were able to keep most of the excavated soil on site instead of bringing it to the landfill. The outer circle consists of interlocking concrete pavers, while the raised inner circle is paved with natural Arizona flagstone. We enhanced the kidney planter by making another circular planter around it from matching wall blocks. The circular tree beds add interest by echoing the circle theme of the yard.

The Distinctive Gardenerthis garden was designed for a respite home for dementia patients. The darker pavers act as a direction finder. They lead people around the garden. The Gazebo is used by patients and families to enjoy some time together outside.
This garden has worked very well. It helps to calm people down and has made a big difference for the staff running the centre
These beds are used by patients to plant up with annual flowering plants. They are designed to be both able bodied and wheel chair accessible
Pro-Land Landscape Construction Inc.We wanted to create multiple functional spaces, perfect for them to entertain as they expressed to us their love of hosting. We designed two additional structures. A timber frame cabana with TV wall and fire feature create a large lounge space perfect for entertaining late into the evening. We worked with the original grade and added retaining walls with a lot of planting to separate the spaces and add green to the large interlock patios. Then, to anchor the dining space, a timber pergola provides some shade but mostly creates an intimate space for gathering.
