Straight Line Design and RemodelingOur clients were looking to build an income property for use as a short term rental in their backyard. In order to keep maximize the available space on a limited footprint, we designed the ADU around a spiral staircase leading up to the loft bedroom. The vaulted ceiling gives the small space a much larger appearance.
To provide privacy for both the renters and the homeowners, the ADU was set apart from the house with its own private entrance.
The design of the ADU was done with local Pacific Northwest aesthetics in mind, including green exterior paint and a mixture of woodgrain and metal fixtures for the interior.
Durability was a major concern for the homeowners. In order to minimize potential damages from renters, we selected quartz countertops and waterproof flooring. We also used a high-quality interior paint that will stand the test of time and clean easily.
The end result of this project was exactly what the client was hoping for, and the rental consistently receives 5-star reviews on Airbnb.

Bishop WoodcraftThese rounded, twisted, and scroll balusters all work perfectly together and are a classy addition to this home in Draper, Utah! With its traditional style yet graceful design, this wall mounted circular staircase is classic and timeless. The large Mahogany handrail, stringers, and curbing, paired with stone treads and risers exude elegance. The steel newels and balusters were all hand painted and then mortised down into the stringers and up into the rail.
O'Sullivan Architects, IncThe spiral stair in the Great Room leads to the owner's home office. A set of stairs beyond the spiral stair lead to the lower level and the indoor golf simulator.
MSH Architecture AssociatesThis is a remodel of a multi level home in Jamaica Plain Boston. Detailing an appropriate stair for the traditional space was the goal. Inserting a delicate wood trimed spiral stair fit nicely with minimum disruption to the space.

CBI Design Professionals, Inc.This residence was designed to have the feeling of a classic early 1900’s Albert Kalin home. The owner and Architect referenced several homes in the area designed by Kalin to recall the character of both the traditional exterior and a more modern clean line interior inherent in those homes. The mixture of brick, natural cement plaster, and milled stone were carefully proportioned to reference the character without being a direct copy. Authentic steel windows custom fabricated by Hopes to maintain the very thin metal profiles necessary for the character. To maximize the budget, these were used in the center stone areas of the home with dark bronze clad windows in the remaining brick and plaster sections. Natural masonry fireplaces with contemporary stone and Pewabic custom tile surrounds, all help to bring a sense of modern style and authentic Detroit heritage to this home. Long axis lines both front to back and side to side anchor this home’s geometry highlighting an elliptical spiral stair at one end and the elegant fireplace at appropriate view lines.
markiewicz GmbHDiese gewendelte Wangentreppe im Stil des Art-Déco wurde aus Sapelli maßgefertigt und befindet sich in einer Wohnresidenz in Łódź. Die aufwendig gebogenen Treppenwangen tragen das edle Geländer aus Holzbändern. Sie zeigt, dass Art Déco nicht nur durch die Farbe Schwarz und hochglänzende Oberflächen charakterisiert wird. Es ist die Wahl und das Akzentuieren bester Materialien, die diesen Stil prägen.
Trimcraft of Fort Myers, Inc.Hard to believe a few months ago, this front entry area didn’t have a staircase in it; let alone this beauty! One of those projects we wished we had “before” photos of. This Estero home underwent a complete renovation and Trimcraft is proud to have been part of the team. Maple treads, risers and 6010 handrail complete this showpiece.
