This 1889 Victorian underwent a gut rehabilitation in 2010-2012 to transform it from a dilapidated 2BR/1BA to a 5BR/4BA contemporary family home. The large kitchen includes a walk-in pantry, built-in breakfast nook and butcher block island counter. A fresh and modern all-white palette was chosen with hand-made backsplash tile. A built-in bill paying desk to the left of the kitchen sports chalkboard paint on the wall. This house achieved a LEED Platinum green certification from the US Green Building Council in 2012. This Seattle remodel of a Greenlake house involved lifting the original Sears Roebuck home 12 feet in the air and building a new basement and 1st floor, remodeling much of the original third floor. The kitchen features an eat-in nook and cabinetry that makes the most of a small space. This home was featured in the Eco Guild's Green Building Slam, Eco Guild's sponsored remodel tour, and has received tremendous attention for its conservative, sustainable approach. This kitchen was originally a servants kitchen. The doorway off to the left leads into a pantry and through the pantry is a large formal dining room and small formal dining room. As a servants kitchen this room had only a small kitchen table where the staff would eat. The niche that the stove is in was originally one of five chimneys. We had to hire an engineer and get approval from the Preservation Board in order to remove the chimney in order to create space for the stove.
