Real Interior NZMy clients are both professionals, they spend much of their free time in their home and enjoy entertaining. As a gourmet cook my client wants his kitchen to function on a professional level.
She is a real estate agent who recognises the importance of professionals and the value of good design.
The project involved a complete renovation of the existing kitchen with an addition to include a laundry. My clients were most concerned with their house functioning for their lifestyle and potential business ventures that will feature the kitchen area.
The island needed to function efficiently, they wanted to be able to cook and entertain their guests at the same time, and so having the range in the middle of the oversized island with a steam oven and combi oven to each side of the main oven worked perfectly.
We decided to use a monochromatic colour scheme as black and white are two such colours that make a bold visual statement and are never ‘out of style’. It also complimented the Electrolux Ebony fridge and seamlessly blends in to the design and scheme.
Careful preparation, good communication between the clients, me and the trades created a kitchen that stands out visually even while keeping the transition from one area of the house to another smooth and appealing.

Pronorm Kitchen DesignWe were very excited to work with this young family in Ham who wanted to make their home more modern and spacious. They were in need of a large open-plan area to accommodate their growing family, and had chosen to extend their home rather than move.
The clients were keen on having a dark and dramatic colour scheme with a pop of yellow. We decided that the best way to achieve these goals was by combining a dark handleless kitchen with a yellow backsplash and accessories.
They were also certain that they wanted lots of storage, so we designed two walls worth of cabinets using Pronorm's Y-line range. We opted for a combination of the textured Dark Cement on the base units with Matt Platinum on the tall and wall units to create a monochromatic yet interesting look.
To tie the whole look together, we chose Silestone Cemento Spa in suede finish for the worktops and upstands. They perfectly match the concrete units, creating a cohesive look.
Inscope Management Services LtdDesign, plan, supply and install new kitchen. Works included taking the the room back to a complete shell condition. The original Edwardian structural timbers were treated for woodworm, acoustic insulation installed within the ceiling void, wall to the garden lined with thermal insulation. Radiator and position changed.
The original internal hinged door was converted to a sliding pocket door to save space and improve access.
All the original boiler pipework was exposed and interfered with the work surfaces, this has all been reconfigured and concealed to allow unhindered, clean lines around the work top area,
The room is long and narrow and the new wood plank flooring has been laid diagonally to visually widen the room.
Walls are painted in a two tone yellow which contrasts with the grey cabinetry, white worksurfaces and woodwork.
The Strada handleless cabinets are finished in matte dust grey and finished with a white quartz work surface and upstand
New celing, display and undercabinet and plinth lighting complete this bright, very functional and revived room.
Kitchen SaverThis kitchen from dark wooden cabinets to a light-toned wood-look laminate doors. The recessed panel and full overlay of the new doors really updates the look, while the detailed mitering keeps it timeless. Searle & TaylorSearle & Taylor were briefed to design a modern Signature Bespoke kitchen for the newly-built home of repeat clients, who are property developers with a keen interest in collecting 20th Century antiques including glass and ceramics. The kitchen is part of a larger open plan living space with double aspect glass panel doors leading to the garden. The room’s interior features a Birch-faced plywood ceiling and American Walnut rectangular feature panels mounted on white walls on either side of the island.
The kitchen features a single run of bespoke tall cabinetry with 22mm thick door and drawer fronts. This is situated behind a large kitchen island that acts as the demarcation between the kitchen and living space. Our clients specified their colour scheme to be in a dramatic contrast to the natural timbers cladding the walls and ceiling and the tall run is handpainted in Black Beauty by Benjamin Moore Paints with the island painted in Grapefruit 2023 by Tikkurila, a Finnish paint brand.
The tall run includes a side-by-side cooling wall comprised of a tall integrated fridge, tall wine cabinet with a UV glass front and a tall integrated freezer, all by Liebherr. Next to it are storage cupboards and housing for a Generation 7000 Pureline 60cm built-in
pyrolytic oven by Miele, with a matching combination microwave above it. Further storage is situated above and below a mid-height integrated 60cm dishwasher, also by Miele.
To the right of the tall cabinetry is an inset area for the Franke undermount sink and chrome Quooker Flex 3-in-1 boiling water tap within a 20mm worktop in Trillium by Dekton, with bin and utility cupboards underneath. Directly behind is a mustard yellow splashback above an upstand with a shelf, also in Trillium. A visible walnut horizontal handle rail is designed beneath the worktop as a reference to the walnut wall panels in the kitchen. This accent is also featured throughout the island where the soft-close doors and drawers have chamfered tops and walnut handle rails, making opening them effortless.
On the working side of the kitchen island are different depth soft-close drawers for cutlery and spices and to house plates, pans and crockery. On the living side of the island soft-close drawers are intersected by open shelving to feature some of the client’s decorative ceramics by Clarice Cliff.
To the left of the island is a raised 60mm thickness solid walnut breakfast bar above a recess for comfortable bar stool seating. For surface cooking, in the task area of the island, is an 80cm Novy Easy Vented Downdraft Induction Hob with a Novy Gas PRO wok burner integrated directly into the Dekton Trillium worktop. In addition, a Kaelo dry cold chamber is integrated within the worktop to keep opened wine perfectly chilled. With no requirement for overhead extraction, our client chose three original 1970’s glass pendant lamps by Holmegaard to provide a perfect Mid-century aesthetic in this kitchen.
