Adrienne DeRosaWith respect to the notion of old-meets-new, the kitchen strikes a comfortable balance between materials. For the center island, Franklin repurposed original barn siding into cladding for the unit, painting it grey. The Corian counter top and stainless steel backsplash provide a cool contrast.
A set of antique barstools was a fortunate find for the homeowner. Sourced from a local bar that had closed, all they needed was a little elbow grease to realize their full potential. It took days to remove years worth of nicotine stains from them, but as Franklin exclaims, "It was worth it because the old stools found a new home in an old barn!"
The partial wall was designed to address a number of functional and aesthetic concerns. Dividing the workspace from the storage space, it keeps the pantry area out of view, and allows light to carry through this area of the home. Franklin also uses the wall as a means to display his growing teapot collection. "It’s funny," he confesses, "but I think they can entice people to sit down, have a cup of tea and converse (Imagine that in this world of technology!)"

Richmond KitchensIf Kitchen colours are made to affect how we feel, this one doesn't disappoint. The Dark tones add warmth and drama, while the Light tones bring excitement and liveliness. Together, they create an environment that is fresh, inviting and extremely elegant.

Lida CucinaThe kitchen runs from front to back of this large family house, with windows to three sides making it extremely light and bright. There is a run of units down each side of the room with a large rectangular island in the centre, emphasising the clean lines and linearity of the space. The cabinetry in a combination of grey oak veneer and cream gloss lacquer adds contrast in both colour and texture.
The cream gloss lacquer on the cupboard doors also reflects the abundant light, as does the bronze mirror above the upstands. The linearity of the room is further emphasised by the strong vertical and horizontal divisions formed by the burnished metal plinths and golas. The cooking appliances form a horizontal row to one side of the kitchen where they are housed within columns, echoing the island. The island has a stone work top in off white, and vertical stone strips that contrast with the grey oak of the cabinets. The hob and downdraft extractor are sited on the island, with a bespoke frosted glass breakfast table at one end. The difference in height of this table breaks up the angularity of the design. On the opposite wall there is another line of base and wall units and the sink. Here, the wall units are set onto wooden back boards, which again emphasise the linearity of the design. Between the wooden backboards and the 300mm stone upstands, bronze mirrors reflecting even more light.
Tim Wood LimitedThis kitchen has a modern, clean and crisp look. The kitchen furniture is made from maple with integrated handles in all of the base cupboards and drawers, which are all finger jointed and on soft close runners. A Mercury oven provides a focal point and is set off by worktops of Corian.
The kitchen features a built in steam oven, microwave and larder cupboard which includes racking for jams, herbs and spices. The owners of this kitchen both love gadgets and asked for all their specialist appliances to be incorporated within the given space.
The room also had to double up as a home cinema, a study area and an eating area which could be expanded when necessary.
